Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Ashley Judd, Emilio Rivera, James Caviezal, Morgan Freeman - Director: Carl Franklin Ashley Judd stars as Claire Kubik, a high-powered attorney whose perfect life comes down when her husband is charged with high crimes of murder. Enlisting the aid of a shrewd military lawyer (Morgan Freeman), Claire will risk her career and even her life to find the truth. Based on the novel by Joseph Finder, HIGH CRIMES is an engaging courtroom thriller that features standout lead performances by Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman. Judd is Claire Kubik, or is she? A successful defense attorney with a seemingly perfect life, Claire is shocked to discover that her husband, Tom (Jim Caviezal), has been arrested by the United States Marine Corps for slaughtering innocent civilians in El Salvador many years before. Not knowing who to believe, Claire eventually accepts her husband's pleas of innocence and sets out to defend him. With the help of wild-card ex-Marine lawyer Charlie Grimes (Freeman) and wet-behind-the-ears Lt. Terrence Embry (Adam Scott), Claire attempts to set the record straight once and for all. But as she uncovers new information that reveals a cover up even she could never have imagined, the stakes are raised, threatening her own life in the process. Acclaimed director Carl Franklin (ONE FALSE MOVE, DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS) embraces his material like a true professional, employing tension-mounting camera movements and clever flashback sequences to turn a potentially standard, by-the-books courtroom drama into an entertaining thriller. Playing another self-reliant, tough character, Judd proves she is one of Hollywood's most dependable stars. High Crimes Reviews: "...[Judd and Freeman are] both good at projecting a kind of Southern intelligence that knows its way around the frailties of human nature....HIGH CRIMES works to keep us involved and make us care..."

High Crimes Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Similar to "No Way Out" I was very impressed with and pulled into the story line by the way this movie wound it's way in and out of different directions. It was an ending much different than I ever expected; the twists and turns were very reminiscent and just as spell binding but much different than those of "No Way Out" with Kevin Costner years ago which is also a very excellent movie. Not your average thriller High Crimes is a well acted, well scripted thriller that will leave you guessing from the edge of your seat right up to the suprise ending.I really enjoyed the ride. Submitted by suemiller (Greencastle,IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Acting Stellar performances from both veteran and rookie actors. Without Judd and Freeman, it would be just another movie. However the screenplay needs a little tweeking as the "surprise" ending is not that much of a surprise. The dramatic conclusion need work. $9.79 On October 3, 1993, Army Rangers and members of the elite Delta Force participated in a covert operation in Mogadishu, Somalia that went horribly wrong. Sent to abduct two lieutenants of a vicious Somali warlord, the soldiers found themselves surrounded by hostile militia. Two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down and many men lost their lives. Mark Bowden of the Philadelphia Inquirer told the story of the battle in his exhaustively researched, critically acclaimed book, BLACK HAWK DOWN, and filmmaker Ridley Scott (GLADIATOR) and screenwriter Ken Nolan have done an amazing job of bringing the dramatic story to the screen. Like Bowden's book, the film does not thoroughly examine the context of the conflict, but gives a detailed and intense blow-by-blow account of the fighting. The outstanding ensemble cast ...

$8.55 In 1965, 400 American troops faced an ambush by 2,000 enemy troops in the Ia Drang Valley (also known as the Valley of Death), in one of the most gruesome fights of the Vietnam War. WE WERE SOLDIERS is a detailed recreation of this true story: of the strategies, obstacles, and human cost faced by the troops that participated. The story focuses on the lieutenant colonel that led the attack, Hal Moore (Mel Gibson), and a civilian reporter who accompanied them, Joseph Galloway (Barry Pepper), as well as a number of other soldiers who were involved.
This is an unusual Vietnam film in that it also shows the North Vietnamese perspective on the battle; their leader Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu An (Don Duong) is depicted as a brave soldier and smart commander. And in addition to the many gory battlefield ...

SHOWTIME deftly combines clever satire and explosive action, taking the buddy cop movie in a new direction. Robert De Niro stars as Mitch Preston, a no-nonsense detective who makes headlines when he shoots the television camera right out of the hands of a meddlesome photographer during a bust. The department is sued for millions, but a slick producer (Rene Russo) drops the suit to force Mitch to star on the network's new reality series. Trey Sellars (Eddie Murphy), a struggling actor and incompetent patrolman, bamboozles his way into a plum role as Mitch's partner. Mitch is a better cop, but Trey knows a lot more about how to be a TV star. He even comes up with the show's catchphrase: ...

$7.05 In this high-intensity drama, based on the novel by Tom Clancy, Ben Affleck stars as Jack Ryan, the CIA agent from Clancy's THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, PATRIOT GAMES, and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. Here, Ryan is dealing with a terrifying new problem: a nuclear weapon has fallen into the hands of foreign terrorists who are determined to create a war between Russia and the U.S.
As the film begins, a South African arms dealer (Colm Feore) acquires a long-lost nuclear weapon and sells it, at great profit, to a resurgent group of fascists led by Dressler (Alan Bates), who plans to lure the U.S. and Russia into a war. Soon after, the Russian premiere dies and the relatively unknown Nemerov (Ciarán Hinds) replaces him. But U.S. president Fowler (James Cromwell) smells a rat, and calls CIA chief William Cabot (Morgan Freeman) and special agent Jack Ryan (Affleck), the junior analyst who has been researching Nemerov, into action.
THE SUM OF ALL FEARS is a powerful addition to Tom Clancy's techno-thriller series. Affleck is effective, and there are notable supporting performances from Freeman, Cromwell, Feore, Hinds, Bates, and Liev Schreiber as a CIA operative. Director Phil Alden Robinson manages the action with great skill. Particularly notable are the terrifying nuclear attack and the sequence of final reckonings intercut with Puccini's ...
