Ever since his days with Black Flag, Henry Rollins has been known for delivering tremendously intense shows with the fury befitting someone who turns his performance into a grueling physical workout that leaves both performers and fans feeling wiped out by the end of the night. For the two-CD THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE, (Rollins's live recorded debut with back-up band Mother Superior), the tattooed Renaissance man chose Chicago's Metro to unleash his might. Aided by the aforementioned power trio Mother Superior (who first hooked up with Hank back on 2000's GET SOME GO AGAIN), Rollins barely stops to breathe, as in-between song breaks are practically non-existent.
THE ONLY WAY is a hard-hitting tour through the Rollins Band canon dating back to 1988's LIFE TIME (the self-empowering punk rant "Do It") and HARD VOLUME ("You Didn't Need," a howling screed of betrayal). The bulk of Rollins's set list draws from the aforementioned GET SOME (including the grooving "Illumination") and 2001's NICE (a wah-wah guitar drenched "Up For It"). With this muscle-bound intellectual and his thunderous power trio pouring their all into these 28 songs, fans are sure to get their money's worth.
Recorded live at The Metro, Chicago, Illinois.
Personnel includes: Henry Rollins (vocals); Jim Wilson (guitar); Marcus Blake (bass); Jason Mackenroth (drums).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Alternative Press (8/02, p.84) - 6 out of 10 - "...Solid, loud rock from one of the genre's most beloved characters." While the album's title is deceiving -- all but five of the 18 tracks on this double disc originate from the '90s, and 11 of those are from the same show -- this is an adequate, well-recorded document of both the original and re-formed versions of Foghat running through their established repertoire. It also works as a tribute to Lonesome Dave Peverett, the group's lead singer and primary songwriter, who died of cancer in February 2000, about a year after the most recent recording here. Since the band hit their peak in 1977 with their ...

Only Way To Know For Sure album
$12.59 Recorded between 1984 & 1991. Includes liner notes by Laurent Ramadier.
Despite being somewhat primitive by modern standards, Horrified is widely regarded as a classic album among grindcore aficionados and is one of the more influential early albums in that style. The songs, mostly in the one- to two-minute range, are constantly up-tempo, alternating between blastbeats and double-time thrashing, with only a few sections approaching any kind of groove. The bass creates an unholy mess of distorted sludge, while the guitars bash out simple thrash riffs as well as some of the most incredibly noisy whammy-bar-eruption solos imaginable. The vocals are delivered in a rough, mid-range sneer (rather than the exaggerated Cookie Monster style of much later grindcore) that shows virtually no variation from one track to the next, either in sound or in the rhythm of the words. You'd be forgiven for thinking that once you heard four or five songs, you'd heard the whole album, because on the surface there isn't much of a difference from one song to the next. Then again, variety probably wasn't high on the band's list of priorities -- this is more about constant intensity and extremity (something that's always relative to the times, meaning it isn't so extreme anymore). Certain songs do stand out -- for example, "The Stench of Burning Death" (whose opening ...
