George Wendt, Kay Lenz, Michael Ensign, Richard Moll, Susan French, William Katt - Director: Steve Miner Horror novelist Roger Cobb is a man on the edge, reeling from his recent divorce, haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his young son and struggling with his new book about his traumatic experiences in Vietnam. But when he moves into the strange house left to him by his late aunt, Roger's precarious sanity comes under siege by nightmares of his dead war buddy, visits from a nosy neighbor, and an onslaught of hideous creatures from another dimension. Horror has found a new home and it's fully furnished with murder and madness!

In an effort to purge himself of the terrible events he experienced in southeast Asia, a professional writer begins work on a semi-autobiographical novel. However, instead of the results he expected, he finds himself giving way to a neurotic frenzy which is somehow related to a nightmarish house.

William Katt (THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO) stars in this 1980s horror/comedy as Roger Cobb, a writer who has just split from his wife and is looking to complete a novel about his experiences in Vietnam. In order to work in peace, Roger moves into his aunt's old house, which she left to him after committing suicide, apparently after a bout with mental illness. However, Roger quickly learns that his aunt's suicide was probably the result of the strange forces at work inside her house, forces which begin giving Roger terrible and very real feeling nightmares about his past. Soon, Roger has become convinced that his long dead son is somehow trapped within the house, and he prepares to find an entryway into the house's bizarre supernatural energy. An inventive take on the haunted house genre, HOUSE achieves its distinctive tone by deftly mixing an ominous atmosphere with dark humor and witty dialogue, resulting in an often creepy and very funny movie that has become a cult favorite.

House Reviews:

"...Unexpectedly snappy....Better performances than might be expected..."-- Janet Maslin, New York Times

"...HOUSE is an unexpectedly ambitious, refreshingly unpredictable horror comedy with some serious undertones..." -- Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

4 stars This House will get you
House is a good scary movie, especially for kids and the "kid at heart". It has good actors, a good plot, and great effects (for the time that the movie was made) It has some good plot twists and the obligatory "happy ending".

Based on both the short story by John W. Campbell, Jr. and the 1951 film produced by Howard Hawks, THE THING is John Carpenter's stunning masterpiece of horror. A group of weary scientists enduring the winter in an isolated camp deep in Antarctica chance upon an alien spacecraft buried in the ice. Near the strange craft is the body of an alien being, frozen solid. Thinking they have made the find of a lifetime, the scientists bring the alien body back to camp and thaw it out. The alien awakens, not in the best of moods, and proceeds to take over the identities of the scientists, one by one, body and all. Helicopter pilot MacCready (Kurt Russell) must lead the surviving men in discovering who among them is human and who is not and how they can destroy "the thing" before it takes them all and moves on to the heavily populated mainland and the rest of humanity. Rob Bottin supplies the awe-inspiring special effects of the creature in its many, ever-changing forms. The effects were groundbreaking at the time and hold up flawlessly over the passing years. But Carpenter does not rely solely on special effects, utilizing his spectacular cast, which includes Wilford Brimley and Richard Dysart, to create three dimensional characters enduring an unthinkable situation. The score from Ennio Morricone is understated, yet increases the tense mood tenfold. Shooting was difficult and done in below freezing conditions, but despite the discomfort the cast and crew produced a truly terrifying film that will stand the test of time. THE THING is surely one of Carpenter's definitive films and a true horror classic. Horror-meister John Carpenter teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic. Features stunning special effects.

Brenda Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) arrives from Atlanta to lead the LAPD's Priority Homicide Division, the special division that deals with explosive high-profile criminal cases. Almost immediately, her mix of brassy toughness and Southern sass begins to rub the mostly male policemen the wrong way. They resent this eccentric, folksy, and occasionally neurotic woman running the show. But when it comes to her CIA-trained interrogation skills, they're forced to admit that she's a pro's pro, a psychological surgeon who gets inside the subjects' minds and draws out their darkest secrets and confessions. And that's why she's the closer. This release includes the first two seasons of the show. Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English
