| | Yumuri Tiene Bilongo CD (2002)
DOS Almas
$13.85 Yumuri's new album was produced by his famous and talented brother Maraca, and he pumps this CD up with more Latin swing than ever - it's very commercial salsa with a Cuban edge. Yumuri toured as the singer of Cubanismo on their first tour of the U.S.
Personnel: Yumuri (vocals); Jesus Madera (vocals, claves, guiro); Rolando Morejón, Roberto Perez (vocals); Amed Medina Alles (acoustic guitar); Pancho Amat (tres); Maylin de la Caridad Gonzalez Aldama (cello); Orlando "Maraca" Valle (flute); Alexander Abreu (trumpet); Enrique Lazaga (guiro); Jani Rodriguez (maracas). Audio Mixers: Jorge Benitez; Yumuri. Recording information: Abdala Studios, Havana, Cuba (10/2001-12/2001). Photographer: Youri Lenquette. There are few soneros out there who can claim the same level of pedigree that produced Yumuri. Born Moisés Valle, alongside brothers Orlando (Maraca) and Luis, one can only imagine how musical that house must have been. He met the salsa world head on in 1984 when he joined the very popular Elio Revé Orquesta (which, incidentally, gave him the name Yumuri), affording him the opportunity to share the stage with such ...

DOS Almas
$11.49 Peter Brötzmann: Peter Brötzmann (saxophone); Albert Mangelsdorff; Günter Sommer (horns, drums). Personnel: Peter Brötzmann, Peter Brötzmann (tarogato, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, bass saxophone); Albert Mangelsdorff (trombone). Liner Note Author: Peter Brötzmann. Recording information: Jazzfest Unna, Stadthalle, Unna, Germany (09/18/1982). Photographers: Roberto Masotti; Dagmar Gebers. This chapter in Atavistic's Unheard Music Series is the CD issue of a 1982 album by saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff, and drummer Günter "Baby" Sommer. There is an interesting contrast of styles here, given the formalist tradition Mangelsdorff came from and the staunch vanguardism of Brötzmann and Sommer. Of course, this is a blowing session that took place at a German Jazzfest and those contrasts work here to the betterment of the music. As Brötzmann blows his guts out, he gets reined in over and again by the repetitive phrases, short lines and fills of the trombonist. He even feeds off of some of Mangelsdorff's melodic lines to move his harsh blowing somewhere ...
