This digitally remastered release of the Pink Fairies' second album, originally released in 1972, contains two extra tracks, "Going Down" and "Walk Don't Run (First Version)."
The best-loved of the original Pink Fairies' three Polydor albums is also, contrarily, the lesser of them all. Recorded in 1972 at a time when the band's own reputation as hippie hell-raisers was already being eclipsed by the soaring Hawkwind, What a Bunch of Sweeties found the band realigning themselves with the twisted Americana rock sensibilities of the latter-day MC5, high on noise but, sadly, low on the blistering commitment that was the hallmark of their debut album. The loss of founding member Twink may or may not have contributed further to the collapse, although there is no denying that, in full instrumental overdrive, the three-piece (plus guests) incarnation of the group was at least as dramatic as its predecessor. Indeed, a nine-minute assault on the Ventures' "Walk Don't Run" rates among the finest Pink Fairies recordings of all time, while the bonus inclusion of an even longer version lends this reissue even greater gravitas. There's also a hot version of the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There," the twisted country opus "Pigs of Uranus," and, rounding off the bonus tracks, a grimy reinvention of Don Nix's "Goin' Down." Elsewhere, however, What a Bunch of Sweeties founders on too many weak ideas drawn for far too long and too much reliance on churning rock jam riffs that could have been peeled off by any half-competent festival bill-filler of the era -- a status that the Pink Fairies should never have been reduced to. ~ Dave Thompson
Digitally remastered reissue of 1972 album includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks, 'Walk Don't Run' (First Version) & 'Going Down'.

| | Pink Fairies Live At The Roundhouse CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
What A Bunch Of Sweeties CD music
$16.89 A compilation of various Pink Fairies releases from the mid- to late '70s, Live at the Roundhouse/Previously Unreleased/Do It is rather frustrating. The glorious ferocity of the original Live at the Roundhouse LP is preserved here in its entirety, but it remains inexplicable why more songs from the Roundhouse gig (which reunited all five past members of the Fairies) were not included, since Pink Fairies concerts were legendary for their excessive ...

| | Pink Fairies Neverneverland CD (1971) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
What A Bunch Of Sweeties songs
$10.59 NEVERNEVERLAND is the debut of U.K. proto-punks the Pink Fairies.
Kicking off the most exhaustive exhumation yet of the Pink Fairies' early-'70s catalog, the remastered Neverneverland readily takes its place among the era's most crucial debuts, a hard-rocking, free-flowing, and, above all, anarchic monster that opens with the definitive statement of yippie intent, "Do It," and doesn't look back. Titled for radical Jerry Rubin's book of the same name, "Do It" remains a manifesto for the revolution that never quite got off the ground, a gutsy affirmation that the Pink Fairies were never to eclipse. Originally released as a January 1971 single, "Do It" also appears among the bonus tracks in its edited (three-minute) 45 rpm format, together with its turbulent B-side, the similarly barnstorming "The Snake." And it must be admitted that anybody entering the realm of the Pink Fairies from those points of view is in for ...
| | Pink Fairies Kings Of Oblivion CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
What A Bunch Of Sweeties album
$11.65 This 11-track, 1973 digitally-remastered release by early '70s psychedelic rockers The Pink Fairies includes "City Kids," "Chambermaid," and "Street Urchin."
The third and final Pink Fairies studio album, Kings of Oblivion, welcomed guitarist Larry Wallis to the brew, bringing with him some of the band's most remarkable -- and concise -- material yet. The opening "City Kids," famously recut by Motörhead during Wallis' sojourn with that band, is as dynamic an opener as the Pink Fairies ever had, while the album's two epics, "I Wish I Was a Girl" and "Street Urchin," similarly catch the band as they made a sharp turn away from the rockin' riff jam basics that scarred their second LP, What a Bunch of Sweeties, and moved instead into the affirmative guttercat stance that so effectively predicted the rudiments of punk rock. Indeed, if any album could be said to have been born ahead of its time, Kings of Oblivion, conceived in 1973 but sounding just like 1977, is it. In common ...

What A Bunch Of Sweeties CD music
$11.33 There must have been something in the water in 1970s Memphis. Not only did the town turn out an unprecedented amount of great R&B, it also hosted a sterling power-pop scene including Big Star, Tommy Hoehn, Van Duren, and Anglophile quartet the Scruffs. Led by McCartney-esque vocalist Stephen Burns, the Scruffs mixed Beatle worship, Big Star-ish rockers, and Raspberries-like pop on their 1977 debut album, WANNA MEET THE SCRUFFS? which became a power-pop cult classic. The Scruffs split up in '79 (though Burns would lead a new version decades later) but the melodic charms and punchy pop ...

Fronting a six-piece band and accompanied by backup singer B.J. Nelson, he performed a set heavy on his hit material from the second half of the 1980s -- starting with the Power Station's "Some Like It Hot" and including his own most popular songs "Addicted to Love," "I Didn't Mean to Turn ...
