Juicy J is best known for his work with Memphis hip-hop heroes the Three Six Mafia as well as Tear Da Club Up Thugs. His CHRONICLES OF THE JUICE MAN originally circulated in the southern hip-hop underground as a cult-item cassette, garnering an impressive reputation on the street level. This disc marks the widespread release of CHRONICLES, and upon hearing the hard-hitting but supple beats, atmospheric production, and uniquely Memphis style, hip-hop fans the world over will be glad that this one wasn't strictly relegated to the underground. Fans of any of Juicy J's previous work with the aforementioned outfits should be immediately drawn to this one.

| | Three 6 Mafia Da End CD (1996)
Chronicles Of The Juice Man: Underground Album
$14.09 Da End furthers the horrorcore style that Three 6 Mafia had unveiled on their cult favorite Mystic Stylez debut, except here the overall tone is one of outright violence rather than eerie ominousness. Moreover, the sound quality here is much improved, as producers Juicy J and DJ Paul lay down the sort of hard-hitting, bottom-heavy beats that would ...

| | Sean Ardoin Pullin' CD (2001)
Chronicles Of The Juice Man: Underground Album
$13.89 In Louisiana, there are plenty of zydeco artists who are content to emulate Buckwheat Zydeco or Clifton Chenier. But there are others who are doing their part to help zydeco forge ahead; Sean Ardoin is such an artist. The singer/accordion player (who was 32 when Pullin' came out in 2001) comes from a long line of zydeco artists who include father Lawrence Ardoin and grandfather Bois-Sec, but he isn't going out of his way to emulate any of his relatives. Pullin' finds Sean Ardoin putting his own spin on zydeco, incorporating elements of funk, rock, blues, and reggae. Ardoin is hardly the first zydeco artist to be influenced by rock or R&B -- plenty of zydeco artists were hip to Memphis soul in the '60s and Ohio funk bands in the '70s. While Ardoin is well-aware of the cultural contributions of the Baby Boomer generation, he is also aware of later developments in music. And on Pullin', he doesn't come across as someone who is living in zydeco's past -- he respects ...
