Here's the daddy of them all at his absolute best, the dirtiest cuts from the Don of the Dirty South. Though Scarface's influence hasn't been matched by commercial sales, he's been enormously influential by simply refusing to budge from what he does best throughout his decade-plus career--sticking (literally) to his guns with gritty, violent, profane vignettes of life as he (and many others) know it and live it. Keeping It Real has been the name of the game for Scarface from Day One, and just the titles of these cuts are testament to his success. "Money & the Power" is thug life 101, an irresistible rap set to an inexorable rhythm, while it's up to the seductive "Mary Jane" (yes, you've guessed it--a drug reference!) to show perhaps the only sensitive side Scarface has.
Despite the mad subject matter, the rapper knows how to put a track together like few of his contemporaries--the beats are to the fore, slow, heavy and danceable, and the instrumentation is spare but never rudimentary. GREATEST HITS is a fine introduction to the work of this seminal figure in Southern rap.

| | Three 6 Mafia When The Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 CD (2000)
Greatest Hits CD music
$10.09 Putting Memphis on the map, Three 6 Mafia's WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS might change the perception of Southern hip-hop forever. Though hip-hop continues to gain in popularity throughout the South, the group feels that Memphis hasn't gotten its due.
With mic laced on tracks like "Jus Like Us," "Mafia N****Z," "From Da Back," WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS is a powerful 18-song effort. DJ Paul, Juicy "J," Gansta Boo, Lord Infamous and Crunchy Black, the original Three 6 Mafia posse, are joined by UGK & Project Pat ("Sippin' on Some Syrup"), ...
| | Freddy vs. Jason DVDs (2003) Full Frame; Widescreen; Subtitled
Greatest Hits music CDs
$8.05 Veteran slashers Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees join forces in this combination sequel to the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog the town's memory.

Greatest Hits songs
$8.99 The rest of the album provides thirteen tracks of Kelly's typically strong and sensual modern R&B. He starts off the record with a reminder that he's far from a one-note artist, coming on as hard as anyone with the anthemic single "Playa's Club," then rolls into a 1970s groove with help from the always-spectacular Snoop Dogg on "Happy Summertime," before easing ...

| | Up! The Psycho Mellow CD (2000) Import
Greatest Hits songs
$20.65 This compilation from Schema Records collects a handful of French and Italian lounge tracks with a strong soulful or jazzy vibe. Compilations like these are often weighed down by easy listening dross, but Up! The Psycho Mellow manages to be an exception to this rule because it is nicely programmed and benefits from a consistent feel throughout. Standouts in the jazz vein include the Paris Studio Sound's "Cha Ba Da Ba Da," a furiously-paced slice of jazz that is paced by a vivacious female scat vocal, and Vocal Shades and Tones' "Hot Heels," which highlights an ...
