Dahmer review Product Description
One of the most notorious serial killers in America was Wisconsin's Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer's exploits included killing 15 boys and resorting to cannibalism on their corpses. This biographical drama starring Jeremy Renner (TV's ZOE, DUNCAN, JACK & JANE) does not focus on the grisly details of the murders, rather it sets out to comprehend an alienated man who struggles with his own sexuality until driven disturbingly over his head. ...See Full Description

So i see this film on special and buy it, not once did i think i would get anything this good. I think the only other film that looks at the subject the same way is a English film called "pepping tom", great acting from what i think are all pretty unknown actors. Non-exploitative serial killer film,you really don't hear that too often and it is really true. Some of the ideas that the director David Jacobson comes up with, will i am sure be stolen in time by much bigger name directors. His way of showing flashbacks was unreal and that he really is thinking about his craft, well done to all involved. Buy at all costs !

|amazing trip into one man's mind|
In spite of the disturbing matter, "Dahmer" never indulges in scenes of cruelty or violence. The ordinary yet deranged life of the serial killer is well portrayed as well as his father and occasional friends. I expected more characters and stories but the whole picture is focused on only one or two of the victims. Jeremy Renner plays wonderfully, but he's not so scary. Anyway an excellent production. Subtitles would have been useful.

||Very unclear and confusing|
This movie was all over the place. It was really hard to tell what was actually happening at the time of the movie and what was a flash back. It concentrated too much on just one victim when it should of gone into more depth about why he did this and what his motivation was. I don't recomend this movie, I would have been better off getting a documentary about him then getting the movie.

||He did eat people right?|
For this to be the only film made on Dahmer,it sure was terrible.The whole film is more based on him being a homosexual than a cannibal.There was nothing of him eating anyone in it.Renner played Dahmer well,but i was expecting this to be alot better.

||Intriguing, chilling, "educational"|
I made a point of viewing this film several times. There were many subtle cues to reveal the scope of Dahmer's personality. It is a brilliant portayal of sociopathology; the relationship with his grandmother for example who summons his support to rid her home of an unwanted bird, with the sweet way he addresses her as "gramma", merging the reality of the bizarreness of his crimes becomes difficult. He seems so "sweet" when in the bar he offers the dancing man a drink which is "spiked." When he wields a meat cleaver to dismember the body of a man he accidently killed out of loneliness in his parents's home and then passes the remains off as yard clippings, his mental disfunction is glaringly obvious. The film does not do this for the viewer, but leaves this task to the mind of the viewer. "He seems 'so normal'" at times... Davison is outstanding as the father who has run out of options as to how to deal with his troubled son. The film is eerie, suggestive, metaphoric and potentially educational as the viewer is put in a positioon of "evaluating" Dahmer. Amazingly, there is no blame or compassion implied, the viewer is left to form an opinion of this individual after being presented with "objective" "evidence." Watch his face once he has captured the bird in his "gramma's" house, he struggles along with the bird, but in his own way.
