Justin Kawika Young is a gifted singer-songwriter and musician who’s achieved widespread recognition and critical acclaim in Hawai’i. Also known as “Hawai’i’s Heart Throb,” Justin’s music appeals to music lovers of all ages - from the young to the young at heart. Justin’s soothing, velvety voice is the perfect compliment to his refreshing musical style, a combination of pop, R&B, reggae, and alternative – many with an island style twist. "Soothe You," a collection of 11 songs (7 Justin originals) including four of his biggest hits, garnered Justin 3 Hawaii Music Awards. His updated rendition of Van Morrison's "Crazy Love,” and original songs “Soothe You,” “Streets of Waiks,” and the song featured in the full length motion picture, “Shallow Hal,” “Never Forget Where I’m From,” all hit the top of the charts in Hawai’i and earned Justin the “ #1 Artist of the Year” at Oahu’s top island music radio station. Justin’s musical interests also include the more traditional style of Hawaiian music. “Soothe You” features 2 beautifully done traditional originals, “Punaikeonaona," and "Ka Wai Ola." Soothe You album
$12.09 The very first moments of Rodrigo y Gabriela's sophomore effort, 11:11, hit the listener cold in the face, and not just because of the amazing guitar playing. Sure, it's there, but it's what anyone who heard the duo's astonishing debut would expect. No, it's the sound of the record: immediate, forceful, crystalline; it's in-your-face compelling and impossible to ignore. 11:11 features 11 new compositions, dedicated to 11 musical artists (not all guitarists, either) who have had an influence on the duo. Recorded in Ixtapa, Mexico, the set was self-produced with the exception of ...

Soothe You songs
$14.45 If you've ever wondered what fado music is, you've come to the right place with this ultra-romantic collection by the veteran raspy-voiced singer who emotes muy romantically over the Portuguese guitar of Carlos Goncalves. While you're listening to beautiful pieces like "Xaile de Silncio" and more folkloric dance gems ("Duas Luas"), it would be wise to educate yourself about the source of the music via the extensive liner notes. There, you'll learn of Misia's chief influence in the world of fado -- Amalia Rodrigues. Rodrigues is such a force in this music that periods in the genre's history are referred to as "pre-Amalia." In fact, "Xaile de Silncio" is an adaptation by Goncalves of an image-rich poem roughly translated in English as "Shawl of Silence." All of this is simply provided for background texture and extra interest. The lyrics are very poetic and all translated into English, but the fun is gathering the many colors of Misia's intense emotion in the original language. If you dined at the fanciest Portuguese restaurant in town, with candlelight ...
| | Jon Matheson CD (2003)
Soothe You album
$11.39 Jon Matheson - BiographyFor Halifax based musician Jon Matheson the music bug bit early thanks to a mother with a connection on her side of the family to a Maritime fiddling legend, a lead guitarist for an uncle and a father who plays and builds acoustic guitars. Jon Matheson's love of music at an early age saw him listening to artists like The Beatles, Elvis Presley and folk/rock singer-songwriter John Mellencamp. At age sixteen while in Ontario, Jon crossed over the railroad tracks, entered an old music store and saw a Stratocaster guitar he fell in love with. He saved enough money from his summer job at a local appliance factory to purchase his first guitar and amp, this experience is a perfect example of Jon's whole approach to life, "I think if you earn something yourself it holds more value and means more". Looking back, Jon finds some humor in the past," who would ever think I would credit putting together hot dog makers with my first guitar". With first guitar in hand and his dad teaching him his first few chords Jon Matheson strummed away perfecting the popular songs of the day, "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison, "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi and the classic Led Zeppelin tune "Stairway To Heaven". Years were spent as a guitarist with numerous bands perfecting his craft and with enough experience and confidence developed his own ideas which would lead the way from simply a guitarist to one of singer-songwriter. A solo career would follow after feeling he had gone as far as he could go playing with cover bands and simply wanting to perform his own material, "my biggest high is getting to take my own music to people". Jon's music deals with the themes of loss, love, hope, heartbreak and the overall human and life experience. Jon launched his debut full length CD effort earlier this year simply entitled "Jon Matheson" an eleven song project. The CD, recorded and produced by Jon himself in his home studio at a budget of under a thousand dollars is another example of how Jon's determination to get something done will not let anything stand in the way. In Jon's own words, "I'm not a recording engineer by any means at all but going into a full studio wasn't an option for me based on finances so there was only one other option... do it myself!" 2004 looks to be busy year for Jon Matheson ...
