She was placed in the foster care system at the tender age of five years old. She grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. where she attended P.S. 44 and J.H.S. 258 it was these two schools Grace would discover her gifts and talents in the areas of rap music and literary art. It was the late 70’s and early 80’s rap music began to boom and once Grace heard it she was hook. Grace mastered the ability to write poetical lyrics to music about her life and issues people faced in their lives everyday. It was upon entering Maxwell H.S. in East N.Y Grace let her closest friends in on her secret. That she could rap and she was good at it! constantly Grace’s friends encouraged her to continue with her talents and not give up. At the age of sixteen Grace was placed in her fifth foster home in Brentwood Long Island. Grace discovered that her new foster parents had children that were already in the rap industry! Grace also found out that their names were Divine Sounds and they had a gold record under their belt. In the fall of 1986 Grace attended Brentwood Ross H.S she befriended Craig Mack who later signed with Bad Boy Records and Erick Sermon who formed the rap group EPMD imagine the excitement when she heard of their successes Grace felt if they could do it she could too. Grace graduated from Brentwood H.S. in 1987. She attended Dowling College for theatrical majors. Grace decided she wanted to pursue freelance modeling and acting. Grace paid for her portfolio and headed straight for Manhattan. She was told by several agencies she was too short for runway but her chances was greater if she aimed for commercial or print because of her youthful ...

This CD is a direct recording of that wonderful performance held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Berkeley, California.Raga ChandranandanComposed by Maestro Ali Akbar Khansahib in the early 1950’s, Chandranandan combines four ragas: Malkauns, Chandrakauns, Nandakauns and Kaushi Kanara. Khansahib has translated the title as “Krishna and the gopis playing with the moon”. The moods of this raga are compassion (Karuna), joy (Shringar) and heroic (Vir). The performance on this recording includes an invocation or meditation, called “alap”, in which the sarode solos, followed by rhythmic compositions or “gats” in slow, medium and fast time cycles of 16 beats, or tintal.Raga Misra Khammaj with RagmalaA traditional light classical raga with moods of joy and compassion is performed in rhythmic cycles of 7 (rupak tal), 10 (jhaptal) and 16 (tintal) beats.
