| | Evan Olson Red CD Evan Olson Discography of CDs
Former Ben Folds collaborator Evan Olson gets to the heart of the matter on his second release. Swollen to the tune of 21 songs, Red is a harmless record about relationships, failure, and, occasionally, fun. From tender ballads to '80s-style rockers, there is little flow and a lot of river. Olson is a talented fellow, though, and he hits his stride on songs like "Vegas Bound" and shows off a nice tenor on the moody "Way to Love"." Well-crafted pop confections abound, and this self-recorded, self-produced confessional is just loose enough to be enjoyable, despite its meandering course. ~ James Christopher Monger
Evan was born in West Point, NY and spent the first third of his life growing up on military bases around the country. While moving a lot, he taught himself to play drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, harmonica and many percussion instruments before turning 13. By age 16, Evan began performing his music in bars and clubs and has played over 2500 live shows to date. Evan has released 6 CDs on LoveCat Music since 1999 and 1 CD on Universal Records. Working from conception through post-production, Olson has become an invaluable member of the Gagsters! Team for which he wrote, performed and recorded all the music for 26 episodes of the Gagsters! TV series. His songs are also in the films Scooby Doo and My Boss's Daughter.

| | Miss Mary Hey Blue! CD (2001)
Red music CDs
$9.89 The fact that Brookline, MA-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Mary Stopas calls herself Miss Mary, combined with her debut album's circa-1963 retro-kitsch graphics and song titles like "The Cutest Boy," might lead listeners to expect that Hey Blue! is artlessly amateurish, adorably winsome/unbearably cutesy (depending on one's tolerance for that kind of thing) K Records-style cuddlecore à la the Softies or Bunnygrunt. Instead, the nine tracks on this far-too-brief album are smartly constructed pop songs, stripped-down but not bare-bones, based around catchy garage pop guitar and organ riffs, trumpet and banjo accents, and Miss Mary's alluring alto, a voice equally suited to tough-girl posturing ("Gimme Gimme"), swoony reveries ("Summer Days"), and Nancy Sinatra-style melodrama (the Lee Hazlewood-penned "My Baby Cried All Night Long"). The songs are simple and instantly memorable, but with enough meat on them to stand up to repeated listens. This terrific solo debut is a charming, unpretentious delight, reminiscent of April March's early records but without the jokes. Miss Mary is also singer/guitarist for the Boston-based garage rockers ...
| | Flying Luttenbachers Void CD (2004)
Red songs
$9.75 A random generation of extreme music types will do well to describe the Flying Luttenbachers. So death metal-free jazz-noise-punk works just as well as prog rock-black metal-no wave-grind-skronk, leaving Weasel Walter's long-running group as the inevitable heirs to Naked City and Pain Killer without actually sounding like either for more than 20 seconds. The Luttenbachers can also sound like Anthony Braxton, King Crimson, the Contortions, Masayuki Takayanagi, Magma, Napalm Death, and Darkthrone all within one song. How a Luttenbachers record sounds has a lot to do with who Walter is playing with; for The Void his partners are Gorge Trio guitarist Ed Rodriguez ...

Red music CDs
$12.99 London-based singer-songwriter and rockband leader John Evans is able to draw on all the main popular Anglo-American musical styles: pop, country, blues, and above all rock. John amply demonstrates that with his second album, a quality production of original material entitled 'Survivor', which pushes his distinctive voice to the full and stretches his songwriting ability. The title of the album is significant (as indeed was that of his first album of 2005, called 'In the Wild Years'). For John is a survivor: of false dawns and faded hopes, but also the drink and drugs of his excessive 'wild years' as a busker on the streets of London, Paris and Amsterdam. 'Most of the people I hung around with in those days are dead now, including my best friend. If I hadn't stopped drinking I'm sure I would be too by now,' he says. Born in Dartford southeast of London ('Same 'ospital as Mick Jagger', he quips), John Nigel Evans has been playing guitar and singing since his early teens. During the 70s and 80s, he bummed and strummed his way around Europe, spending seven years in his much-loved city of Paris, before returning to London ...
