| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
Movin' On music CDs
$15.05 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes their NGDB Records imprint), the group recorded the set live in the studio. Produced by veterans George Massenburg and Jon Randall Stewart, this set sounds inspired, fresh, and like the NGDB has been utterly rejuvenated. It combines the old-/good-timey feel of their concert performances -- without adding American folk or country standards -- and the poignancy of their best studio recordings. Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen were aided on this set by bassist Glenn Worf, guitarist Richard Bennett, and drummer Vince Santoro, as well as backing vocalists such as Matraca Berg (who also contributed a pair of songs to the album), Jessi Alexander, and Jaime Hanna.
The set opens ...

| | John Denver Rocky Mountain High CD (1972)
Movin' On album
$6.75 ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH heightened John Denver's profile as one of the key folk singers of the 1970s. The record became the artist's first to hit the Top 10 on the strength of its expansive, memorable title track and an overall sound distinguished by a more fully fleshed band, including backing vocals, fiddle, and lap steel. As opposed to ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH's predecessor POEM, PRAYERS AND PROMISES, there is some percussion ...
| | Billy Joe Shaver Everybody's Brother CD (2007)
Movin' On CD music
$13.65 A Billy Joe Shaver album is always cause for celebration, but on this 2007, Grammy-nominated release, the outlaw country troubadour shines in a whole new way. Produced by John Carter Cash, the album features all country-gospel originals, half of them sung in duet with a laundry list of country greats, including the late Johnny Cash, old partner in crime Kris Kristofferson, and ...
| | Grievous Angels Miles On The Rail CD (1998)
Movin' On music CDs
$12.49 The Grievous Angels' third album finds them playing their own hard-driving brand of country-rock on nine original tracks and two covers. Instrumentally, the music is driven by the chugging beat of Jesus Navarro's snare drum and a mix of acoustic and electric guitars. But the real instrumental genius is Jon Rauhouse, whose steel guitar, mandolin, and banjo flourishes ...

Movin' On CD music
$25.59 This rerelease of the artist's 1970 recording features 11 songs, including "Tremble If You Must."
Perhaps John Denver's worst-selling album, Whose Garden Was This, is largely a record of cover songs, starting with the Tom Paxton-penned environmentalist anthem that is the title track, and including Denver versions of such songs as the Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mr. Bojangles," The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby," and "Golden Slumbers." Denver's own contributions included the awkward "I ...
| | 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Chely Wright CD (2003)
Movin' On music CDs
$8.09 Chely Wright's volume of 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection is her first greatest-hits retrospective and includes highlights from each of the country vocalist's five albums. Opening with the fun honky tonk of "Til I Was Loved by You" and "Sea of Cowboy Hats," the set soon moves into more textured Tony Brown country-pop for the radio favorite "Shut Up and Drive" and the smart, fun (and number one single) "Single White Female." In fact, the collection pulls four songs from Single White Female, which might shortchange the grittier feel of her early work. But that's okay -- Wright made the transition to a more pop-oriented sound with aplomb and no sacrifice of her vocal sass, so her first look back should nod to where she's been while tipping ...
