| | Darryl Worley I Miss My Friend CD Darryl Worley Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Country hunk Darryl Worley's sophomore album is a tour de force of country hooks, steel guitars, and old-timey fiddles--and incidentally some pretty fine songwriting, as evidenced by songs such as "I Wouldn't Mind the Shackles" and the title track, both of which deal with the traditional country dilemmas of love and loss, and how to get a hit record out of them. There's a refreshing lack of gloss in I MISS MY FRIEND, recalling Dwight Yoakam's early releases, with some hot picking courtesy of Nashville's finest, a great road song in "Calling Caroline," and some folksy, homespun philosophy with "Family Tree" and "Back Where I Belong." Worley's a traditionalist in the best sense--Hank Williams would recognize the subject matter of "The Least That You Can Do"--and his songwriting is honest, catchy, and sentimental in the grand Nashville tradition. With more than a hint of iron in its soul, I MISS MY FRIEND is a refreshing antidote to the big-budget bluster of some recent country releases.

I Miss My Friend album
$6.19 "She's My Kind Of Rain" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Tim McGraw has sold millions of records by shuttling between pleasantly cornpone neo-honky tonk and Mark Wills/John Michael Montgomery-style lite-pop balladry. With TIM MCGRAW AND THE DANCEHALL DOCTORS, however, the singer pulls off the wholly unexpected feat of creating an album so richly textured and boldly mature, it makes much of his earlier work seem silly by comparison. Completely absent are ...
| | Joe Nichols Man With A Memory CD (2002)
I Miss My Friend CD music
$6.69 If you think that photogenic young country singer Joe Nichols looks more like a Calvin Klein model than a honky-tonk warrior, just count your blessings that he doesn't feel bound to don an ill-fitting cowboy hat in the vain quest for the kind of phony image purveyed by far too many of his peers. Similarly, MAN WITH A MEMORY finds Nichols unafraid of sounding contemporary without completely abandoning his country roots. There's no hokey, half-assed western ...
| | Toby Keith Unleashed CD (2002)
I Miss My Friend music CDs
$12.59 If you pay attention to the mass media, the ostensible "big news" on UNLEASHED is the opening track, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," an anthemic song of vengeful, post-9/11 patriotism whose subtle-as-a-flying mallet lyrics and delivery make Barry ("Eve of Destruction") McGuire sound like James Taylor. Far more palatable are the 11 songs that follow, from the gutsy, churning ...
| | Keith Urban Golden Road CD (2002)
I Miss My Friend songs
$9.99 Considering that Keith Urban grew up in New Zealand and cultivates an image that's more Kelly Clarkson than Roy Clark, one might be tempted to doubt his abilities when it comes to Nashville hit making. On GOLDEN ROAD, however, Urban delivers a solid set of contemporary country with more panache and chops than many of his American-born, ...
| | Vince Gill Next Big Thing CD (2003)
I Miss My Friend album
$12.59 "Next Big Thing" won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
This album's title is an ironic one, since Vince Gill has spent plenty of time as the Big Thing in country music. He started out as a hot-pickin' bluegrass guitarist before going solo in the mid-'80s. Some 20 years down the line, Gill has nothing to prove but still plenty to say. As always, his sound is a mix of Rodney Crowell-style '80s New Traditionalism, white soul, and pop, with a touch of that bluegrass influence coming through in his keening tenor. ...
