...Famous Last Words... was the last album that Roger Hodgson made with Supertramp before seeking a solo career, and he made sure that radio would take kindly to his last hurrah with the band. Sporting an airy and overly bright pop sheen, ...Famous Last Words... put two singles on the charts, with the poignant "My Kind of Lady" peaking at number 31 and the effervescent smile of "It's Raining Again" going to number 11. The album itself went Top Ten both in the U.S. and in the U.K., eventually going gold in America. The songs are purposely tailored for Top 40 radio, delicately textured and built around overly bland and urbane choruses. Hodgson's abundance of romantically inclined poetry and love song fluff replaces the lyrical keenness that Supertramp had produced in the past, and the instrumental proficiency that they once mastered has vanished. Hodgson's English appeal and fragile vocal manner works well in some places, but the album's glossy sound and breezy feel is too excessive. Hodgson gave his solo album, 1984's In the Eye of the Storm, a mildly progressive feel, quite unlike his last appearance with his former group. ~ Mike DeGagne

Supertramp ...Famous Last Words... Songs ...Famous Last Words... Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good LP I'm 53 years old and have been listening hard to all kinds of music for a long time. One of the first concerts I ever attended was Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Uriah Heep (all 3 for a ticket of about $12 - circa 1971). I've never looked back. There were so many prolific bands over all these decades that it was just impossible to keep up with everything they put out. My main interests were pretty much wrapped up in early heavy metal, but I did have other likes. One of those was Supertramp. However, the only one I was really familiar with was Breakfast In America. Recently I went to a great little record shop near the University of S.C. called Papa Jazz and found Famous Last Words on vinyl. I don't know enough about Supertramp or music to speak technically about how good this LP is, but suffice it to say I would recommend it whole heartedly. It really, really moved me. And if I get moved enough to order the cd then it's that good. Later. Submitted by green_eyes_272 (Lexington, S.C.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

BIA Part II Listen, I love Breakfast In America (BIA), but FLW is just as good. I always thought of FLW as Supertramps' Abbey Road and BIA as their Sergeant Pepper. Submitted by Mike O (Kansas City) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A Masterpiece! This is my 2nd favorite Supertramp album & contains my favorite song:
"Don't Leave Me Now", which is simply incredible! "Waiting So Long" & "Know Who You Are" are great songs also.
"It's Raining Again" is a "fun" song.
This album has a little of everything.
An absolute must have in anyone's collection! "5+++ Stars!" Submitted by sc777 (Woodbourne, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A must have All great tracks but "Don't leave me now" really tugs at the heart strings. Also, if you listen carefully to the instrumental part I'd swear you can hear a bit of Cutting Crew's I just died in your arms tonight. Maybe they liked it too. ...Famous Last Words... music CDs
$10.29 Hy80 is a Jersey City based band of three siblings and a guy named Gary.We can be characterized (or criticized?) as an antithesis of the ten-year-old indie-geekie-pop-punk thing. We specialize in a sound based not only on energy, but also on vocal harmonies and a dynamism not seen by today's standards. Not afraid to call ourselves fans of 60's and 70's groups ranging from The Who and Kinks to Neil Young, we also get into the less mentionable Humble Pie and Fairport Convention. Yeah, we like Nazareth and ...
