Ealing Jazz Festival 2000 album
$13.35 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends ...

Ealing Jazz Festival 2000 songs
$9.59 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its unlikely combination of Alpert's cool Chet Baker-like trumpet and the blocky cadences of a marching band, the Tijuana Brass produced a lively, colorful mix that managed to appeal to hips and squares alike.
WHIPPED CREAM & OTHER DELIGHTS was Herb Albert's most successful album, helped--no doubt--by its highly provocative cover art. The tunes are mostly unknown originals or, in the case of Lieber & Stoller's "Love Potion #9," so transformed ...

Ealing Jazz Festival 2000 CD music
$5.69 In the Spring of 1997 four young Chicago jazz enthusiasts rehearsed for the first time in a suburban basement studio. The goal was nothing more than to have a regular session where the musicians could feel free to try out their original compositions and ideas about ensemble playing. After only the first session it became clear that the collective was onto something big and by the Fall of 1997 Spazztet released its first album, "Beautiful Impatience," to critical acclaim. In the last three years Spazztet has played to enthusiastic audiences at colleges and clubs across the midwest. Their CDs have received airplay throughout the country and their compositions have won fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council. In December of 1999, Spazztet released their ...

Ealing Jazz Festival 2000 album
$13.65 Chris Staig:Has won praises for his solo recordings, and for his work with other performers.Used to play guitar for a bagpipe funk band called Taxi Chain. Way back in the mid nineties when one could play 3 nights a week in bars and not starve. Even if there was a bagpiper in your band.Made two solo CDs he's proud of. Deeper We'll Dream (2000) caused Kurt Swinghammer to call Staig "surprise local discovery of the year" and The Toronto Sun to call him "a song writing Charles Atlas". Songwriter Jonathan Seet best summed up Staig's second CD, Death of Romance, as "damn f**** straight, man". Both discs received commercial, campus and CBC radio play.Played a lot of guitar with Greg Hobbs and is happy with the guitar playing on the CDs "Drake Motel" (2001) and "Threats and Promises" (2004). Hobbs says "Staig has an uncanny ability to colour a song perfectly without showing off." Staig has also recorded and played live with Jason Collett of Broken Social Scene. His guitar playing is featured on the track "Blue Skies" from Collett's ...
