$14.99 International pop star Youssou N'Dour explores of the themes and sounds of Senegal's Sufi culture on this striking 2004 release. Markedly different than the artist's other albums, on which African elements combine with Caribbean influence and various American styles (including soul, jazz, and rock), EGYPT moves away from N'Dour's trademark pop and ...

| | Manny Oquendo On The Move! (Muevete!) CD (1996)
20 Preferidas CD music
$12.49 The strong and powerful influence of African music is hard to miss on this CD, which illustrates the rich cultural heritage of blacks in Bahia and Northeastern Brazil (a region that has produced many musical greats). Legends like Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, and Machito were on the scene, so aspiring young salseros assumed they had no choice but to give 200 percent. The percussionist and his longtime partner Andy Gonzales bring that unwavering work ethic to On the Move! (Muevete!), an outstanding live date recorded at Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco. When a 65-year-old Oquendo and his band Libre tear into Bobby Capo's familiar cha-cha "Piel Canela" and infectious originals like "No Cuentes," ...
| | Iggy Pop Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell CD (2005) (Import) Italy
20 Preferidas music CDs
$17.59 Iggy & the Stooges must have signed one of the most faulty recording contracts ever known to man during the early `70s -- as countless compilations have surfaced over the years of the same several songs the band was working on (as a successor to the 1973 rock `em sock `em classic, Raw Power). Although no proper studio recordings for the planned album were ever committed to tape (thanks to rampant drug use, Pop's deteriorating mental health, and most importantly, no record label interest), rough demo and live recordings of the tracks had survived, serving as the basis for such collections as Studio Sessions (Pilot) and Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell (both of which almost duplicate the same track listing). Both titles mix in a few pre-Raw Power outtakes as well, and of the two, the latter has two more tracks, "Tight Pants" (an early version of "Shake Appeal") and "Scene of the Crime." The quality of the tracks (both sonically and compositionally) vary, but even in rough form, there's no denying that such tracks as "I Got A Right," "Johanna," and "Open Up and Bleed" were destined to become Stooges classics. While Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell shouldn't be the first Stooges CD to add to your collection (start off with their three officially released studio albums), it's definitely a worthwhile listen for the initiated. ~ Greg Prato
Titled after one of Raw Power's more over-the-top tracks, the live solo Iggy set Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell should not be confused with an earlier release of the same name (comprised of Stooges rarities from the 1973 period). This 2005 Italian import release spotlights a Toronto show from October 28, 1982, and since the album Iggy was supporting at the time, Zombie Birdhouse, is one of his odder solo outings, this recording will be of interest mainly to hardcore Iggy heads. Iggy's backing band proves to be a rough and rocking one, but as most longtime fans know, this era was right before Iggy took a much-needed break from the road, and Iggy's often disinterested vocals can be detected on such tracks as "Loose." But it's always a hoot whenever such rarely performed tunes of yesterday as "Kill City" and the title track get live readings, and this was one of the few tours that featured such oddities ...

20 Preferidas album
$15.15 Brad DeHart was born on New Year's Eve, 1947 in the musically rich city of New Orleans and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, the heart of the Cajun country. From a very early age, he had a definite love for music and enjoyed listening to his father's records on an old hi-fidelity system.Brad began his musical career in the late 60's playing in a rock and roll band called The Persian Market which featured Keith Thibodeaux (Little Ricky of "I Love Lucy" fame) on drums. The band enjoyed regional popularity in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. In 1969, Brad became a solo act and exited the decade with a performance at Luxembourg Gardens in Paris, France. Performing has taken Brad from his roots in Louisiana to cities in Europe, and these musical experiences have given him new ways to let people hear and feel where he's coming from.Other ...

20 Preferidas CD music
$31.91 The Dixie Hummingbirds lend their exquisite harmonies to "Loves Me Like a Rock" [is it "love" or "loves"?] and "Tenderness," while Reverend Claude Jeter contributes a floating falsetto to "Take Me To the Mardi Gras" and the Muscle Shoals rhythms section provide occasional R&B muscle.
These guests add color and texture to Simon's singer-songwriter format, marking a cultural journey that would culminate in 1986's GRACELAND. In fact, THERE GOES RHYMIN' SIMON is probably the artist's most consistent and satisfying solo album after GRACELAND--a ...
