Sir Karl chose to score "River Queen" as the first motion picture score, originally released in 2005. The film stars Kiefer Sutherland & Samantha Morton and the score won first prize at the Shanghai Film Festival.
Karl Jenkins has an unusually wide range of talents--he's a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist. He came up through the ranks of the U.K. jazz and progressive rock scenes (Jenkins was a member of later editions of Soft Machine) before moving into composing and performing for film soundtracks. RIVER QUEEN, originally released in 2005, stars Kiefer Sutherland and Samantha Morton and portrays a romance between an Irish woman and a Brit during the 1860's British colonization of New Zealand. Jenkins's music ingeniously and beautifully evokes the various ethnic strains correlated with the story's characters and setting. The score won an award at the Shanghai Film Festival.
