Pianist/vocalist Mose Allison has made a name for himself with his unique blend of jazz and blues, which serves as an ideal backdrop for his witty lyrics and charmingly mellow voice. I'VE BEEN DOIN' SOME THINKIN' (1968) features 11 original tunes and a cover of the traditional song, "You Are My Sunshine," which Allison reworks with complex, jazzy chords. Other songs here, such as "City Home" and "Everybody Cryin' Mercy," are very blues oriented. The latter was popularized by Bonnie Raitt in a gritty rendition, though Allison's original version, as heard here, is quite smooth and laid-back. On this tune, Allison croons about the contradictions of humanity and the duplicity of both individuals and nations. Many of the lyrics on this album discuss love and relationships in ways that are quite compelling, and often downright funny. For example, "Your Molecular Structure" uses molecules as a metaphor for describing a pretty woman. This is Allison at his best.

| | World Psychedelic Classics 3: Love's A Real Thing: The Funky, Fuzzy Sounds Of West Africa CD (2005)
I've Been Doin' Some Thinkin' songs
$10.55 Love's a Real Thing is an excellent introduction into the wild sound world of West Africa in the '70s. As Ronnie Graham points out in his superb liner notes, the '60s were a time of assimilation for much of the popular music of Africa. Many bands were playing a hybrid of Latin and African music typified by the Congolese rhumba of Franco & OK Jazz. The '70s were a different bag, though, with the heavy electric sounds of Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Cream, and others seeping into the consciousness of a new generation of Africans who were also contending with their own emerging sense of identity. The results are raucous, exuberant melting pots of funky soul, psychedelic rock, and honey-sweet Latin horns mixed through the sensibilities of extremely talented African bands on the cusp of developing styles like soukous, mbalax, and Afro-beat. Senegal's Star Band Number One (aka Etoile de Dakar and confusingly billed here ...

| | Ozone Quartet Live At Local 506 CD (2003)
I've Been Doin' Some Thinkin' CD music
$10.15 Ozone Quartet is an instrumental progressive rock/fusion band based in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. Originally known as Cloud Nine, the group formed in 1992 when Wayne Leechford (Chapman Stick) and Hollis Brown (electric violin) joined forces with Graham Fry (guitar) and Steve Smith (drums). After two self-released recordings and numerous regional shows, Cloud Nine started to gain recognition as an eclectic instrumental band that was paving new ground and reintroducing the best influences in rock-fusion.In 1995, Cloud Nine began writing material for what was to become the first Ozone Quartet CD, Fresh Blood. With new drummer, Francis Dyer, the band's sound became more focused. Cloud Nine's unorthodox instrumentation and original style began to draw attention from the small but growing scene of old and new found supporters of progressive rock and fusion music around the world. Cloud Nine performed at the first of several USA progressive rock festivals including ProgDay and Progscape. Due to trademark laws, Ozone Quartet became Cloud Nine's new name in 1997. Wayne and Hollis ...
