| | Robbie Williams I've Been Expecting You CD Robbie Williams Discography of CDs
A more mature, calculated album from a pop star who's often gloried in being immature and spontaneous, I've Been Expecting You may suffer from comparisons to its excellent predecessor, but it also finds Robbie Williams weathering the sophomore storm quite well. While Williams' debut was infectious and outrageous, the second is indeed a more studied album. The opener, "Strong," begins very well, with the spot-on lyrics: "My breath smells of a thousand fags/And when I'm drunk I dance like me Dad," and "Early morning when I wake up/I look like Kiss but without the makeup." Many of the tracks on I've Been Expecting You show an undeniable growth, both in songwriting and in artistic expression; two of the highlights, "No Regrets" and "Phoenix From the Flames," are sensitive, unapologetically emotional songs that may not be as immediately catchy as those on his debut, but pack a greater punch down the road. Williams does indulge his sense of fun occasionally, playing up James Bond during the transcontinental hand-waver "Millennium" (which samples Nancy Sinatra's theme for You Only Live Twice), and simply roaring through "Win Some Lose Some" and "Jesus in a Camper Van." ~ John Bush

$11.65 One of the best U.K. debuts of the '90s, Life Thru a Lens is an uninhibited joyride through all manner of British music, from glam to alternative to soft-rock to dance-pop. | | Porcupine Tree In Absentia CD (2002)
I've Been Expecting You CD music
$8.55 There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & roll directness, and acoustically- and electronically-generated sounds. Their debut IN ABSENTIA shows all these elements in place, rich with the likely possibility of them becoming a contemporary counterpart to Pink Floyd.
Hailed by Billboard as 'cinematic...simple gorgeous', Porcupine Tree are unquestionably one of the UK's most inspired and inventive rock ...

I've Been Expecting You CD music
$9.69 Forest Whitaker delivers a ferociously commanding performance as bloodthirsty Ugandan president Idi Amin in Kevin MacDonald's THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND. Adapted from the novel by Giles Foden, the film recounts Amin's horrific reign through the eyes of a fictional character, Nick Garrigan (James McAvoy), a young doctor from Scotland who travels to Uganda hoping to do some good. Nick is more sanguine about new president Amin than is his counterpart Sarah Merrit (Gillian Armstrong), whose experience causes her to be skeptical of Amin's bombastic declarations. After an ...

I've Been Expecting You album
$13.29 As the liner notes so cleverly state, The String Quartet Tribute to the Foo Fighters "throws the band into a time machine and presses 'Baroque'." This might be a stretch, but it's a great line nonetheless. Naturally, the prettiness and simplicity of "Big Me"'s melody does fine in string form and the addition of tasteful tambourine to "Learn to Fly" works wonderfully. But it might be "I'll Stick Around" that's the highlight of this record, since the violinists and cellists seem to respond to the song's churning bottom end and crashing chords with real abandon. There's a point in the chorus when the raw violin lead actually begins to approximate the unbridled fury of the original. ...

$37.25 This is a logical tribute album from one great bassist (Brian Bromberg) to another (Jaco Pastorius). The front of the CD purposely resembles Pastorius' debut recording and the program features six Pastorius songs (including two versions apiece of "Come on, Come Over" and "Teen Town"), Joe Zawinul's "A Remark You Made," the R&B standard "The Chicken," and Bromberg's "Tears." A master at tapping his bass and equally skilled on electric and acoustic basses, Bromberg also has the ...
| | Done Me Wrongs Done Me Live CD (2007)
I've Been Expecting You songs
$15.19 THE DONE ME WRONGS were born in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, in the summer of 2004. It all began as an innocent, bourbon-soaked, country-kitchen-jamboree that eventually gave rise to sixteen train-riding, breakin’-up-in-pick-up-trucks, santa-claus-ain’t-comin’-to-town songs that were looking to find their way into the world. Thus DONE ME LIVE came kicking and howling its way into being. The founding members of THE DONE ME WRONGS (Bill Bridges, Karen Graves, Cam Macduffee and Nicole Underhay) met while working at The Shaw Festival - Canada’s best and brightest theatre festival. In a dingy little bar in the basement of The Royal George Theatre (affectionately dubbed “The George”) on October 24th, 2006, we surrounded ourselves with musical ringers from all over southern Ontario and invited 150 or so of our closest friends to come join us in making music magic. ...
