While it can't hope to compete with the impressive box sets of her work or even more specialized single-disc collections, 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Billie Holiday still manages to present a fair amount of her most definitive work from the '40s, even though it's only 12 tracks long. "Strange Fruit," "Lover Man," "Lady Sings the Blues," and "My Man" are all here, along with "Fine and Mellow," "'Tain't Nobody's Bizness If I Do," and "I Loves You Porgy." Not surprisingly since its track listing is so small, this collection is somewhat unfocused and definitely incomplete, but it offers a tantalizing taste of Billie Holiday's most musically fruitful period. ~ Heather Phares 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Billie Holiday Music 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Billie Holiday Songs 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Billie Holiday Music 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Billie Holiday Music Review Buy 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Billie Holiday CD Purchase 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Billie Holiday CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | CD-R - 700MB, 10 Pack (2009)

Liner Note Authors: Ira Gitler; Bob Blumenthal. Recording information: Van Gelder Studios, Englewood Cliffs, NJ (05/06/1961). Photographer: Francis Wolff. The title of this Blue Note set, Doin' Allright, fit perfectly at the time, for tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon was making the first of three successful comebacks. The tenor is teamed with the young trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, pianist Horace Parlan, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Al Harewood for a strong set of music that is highlighted by "You've Changed" (which would become a permanent part of Gordon's repertoire), ...
