Not left hanging This combo is a really good old metal lover's album. I love live music, and Metal Church does not disappoint with this one. The hanging in the balance CD is also great, and vintage MC. I just gave my computer a sound system upgrade and have listened to Hanging in the balance almost exclusively since I installed it. Not Bad The title to "hanging in the Balance" refers to the period in time which this album was recorded, mainly the early nineties when metal was starting to loose it's popularity and grunge was taking off. It also refers to the fact that Metal Church themselves were literally hanging in the balance due to being dropped by the major label they were on and ending up on Joan Jett's Blackheart Records label. The album itself is still a pretty solid metal outting, and fans of The Human Factor will get some enjoyment out of it, in fact that is the album which is closest to it in style and form. | | Deep Purple Machine Head CDs (1972) Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Hanging In The Balance/Live CD music
$10.75 This package contains the original MACHINE HEAD plus quadrophonic mixes of 2 songs on one disc, MACHINE HEAD remixed by Roger Glover in 1998, and a 28 page booklet.
A probable contender for one of hard rock's "all-time most influential albums," Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD has all the markings of a heavy classic. It was here that the band's combination of amped-up blues, progressive instrumental prowess, screaming guitars, and thunderous rhythms was crystallized ...

| | Deep Purple Who Do We Think We Are CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Hanging In The Balance/Live CD music
$10.45 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From Tokyo," boasted a riff as memorable as the one that defined "Smoke on the Water" and was later admitted by Ritchie Blackmore to have been cribbed from Eric Clapton's "Cat Squirrel." Although Blackmore's always-impressive riffing stands out on such songs as "Mary Long" and "Place in Line," this album also spotlights ...
| | Francesco De Gregori CD (1974)
Hanging In The Balance/Live music CDs
$12.45 This 1974 self-titled Francesco De Gregori release has many points in common with its predecessor, Alice Non Lo Sa. Often called "the Sheep Album" because of its cover, this record was also criticized for its obscurity and failed to produce any hit singles, although -- just as with the previous album -- its first track, "Niente da Capire," would eventually become a De Gregori classic. A wry but still affectionate portrait of a very peculiar ex-lover, "Niente da Capire" also manages to make fun of the accusations of hermeticism leveled at De Gregori, as each stanza features a good serving of surrealistic wordplay and ends with the emphatic title line "There's nothing to understand here." Clearly, the mixed reception of his first work greatly affected De Gregori, as several songs question or mock his own ability to write, in a manner that is sometimes ironic and sometimes self-deprecating, but which also points to a very telling fear of inadequacy or isolation. Not for the first time in his career, De Gregori would struggle with self-confidence. In fact, in a 1980 interview he identified this album as his worst, and mentioned that he should not have released it. Presumably, De Gregori has changed his mind since then and -- like most of his fans -- has reconsidered this album as the hidden treasure of his entire discography. While it is true that the record is bogged down by a few tracks that are simply too rambling, the vast majority ...
