The soundtrack to a road movie (included as a seperate DVD disc), One Big Trip is an impressive collection of some of the finest underground hip-hop acts of the moment. The Hieroglyphics, the all-star crew that includes Del tha Funkee Homosapien, produced and compiled the album, and appear on four tracks, as well as a solo cut by Del. All are superb, showing much improvement over the sometimes uneven quality of the first Hieroglyphics album. Similarly, Jurassic 5's opener, "Verbal Gunfight," is first-rate. What's more, the album is impeccably sequenced, so Dan the Automator's instrumental dance cut flows seamlessly with the Dilated Peoples and Swollen Members contributions, which are much darker and use chilling piano loops and vocals. Even the more party-flavored cuts -- such as Lootpack's "Movies 2 Groupies" -- have first-rate production that allows them to fit in seamlessly with the more underground tracks. One Big Trip will please anyone looking for smart, well-crafted hip-hop. ~ Victor W. Valdivia

G.U.O.M.D. Thats all I should really have to say, they tear up on that Opio produced track, the other tracks by Hiero, including the other artists are killer. I just happen to be listening to that song. The movie that this disc is also, happens to be one of the best movies ever made. After you buy this because it rules, then go buy Calicomm 2004. Peter Bittenbender also produced that one. It also contains the freshest D.E.L. cuts just like the title track "one big trip" on this disc. Huh, check that, Del does the track title...fresh and dope. If you dont have this you dont have the funky homosapien gene. Submitted by kungfusioning (The Worse Part, US) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
funny and inspiring at the same time This movie made me laugh so hard, but it also made me think about the way i want to live my life. This movie really makes you think twice about the choices we make in life.
"One Big Trip" vividly captures today's youth's perspective of the world, and it also documents interviews from different kinds of people that we believe could never exist. The people in the movie vary from a "Black Elvis," an Everglades guide that has been living on his own since we has eleven, and "the millenium man." In my opinion, one of the most powerful moments in this "Easy Rider"-esque documentary is when one of the producers, Peter Bittenbender, talks to a man who we eventually find out is addicted to a certain drug. We learn first-hand how damaging that drug can do to an individual.
On the disc side it's got some unreleased and outstanding work from the Hieroglyphics (5 tracks), Jurassic 5 and Dan the Automator, among others. If you're a fan of Bay Area hip-hop and independent filmmaking, "One Big Trip" is the disc to pick up.

One Big Trip album
$13.89 Handsome Boy Modeling School is the tag for the unearthly union of producer Prince Paul and beatmaster Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, the forces behind two of the most universally acclaimed hip-hop records. While each man has recorded worthy solo records, each is better known for his individual connections to the clasics 3 FEET HIGH & RISING, by De La Soul and OCTAGONYCOLOGIST, by Dr. Octagon.
When one ponders the referential nature of those albums and the fact that this project takes its name from an obscure episode of the early-'90s Chris Elliott TV vehicle "Get a Life," one might expect similar goofiness. Other than samples of that show, a phone conversation with the unbeatable Biz Markie, and a hilarious monologue from Don Novello's eternal alter-ego Father Guido Sarducci, SO...HOW'S YOUR GIRL is a hyper-serious collection of genre-bending and enrapturing tracks. It's an all-star affair as everyone from Mike D to Alec Empire ...
| | Styles Of Beyond 2000 Fold CD (1998)
One Big Trip CD music
$9.99 Styles of Beyond keep one foot firmly planted in the hip-hop underground, while the other one jets forward into wholly uncharted territory on their debut album 2000 Fold. Despite their sometimes bizarre lyrical flights of fancy, Ryu Maginn and Takbir Bashir opt to maintain the menacing delivery of most hardcore and street MCs, but that does not render the message at odds with the medium. Instead, it fits the idea of the increasingly burdensome millennium that is a primary theme on the album, and the duo's inventiveness does, indeed, move the music forward, challenging hip-hop convention with experimental and wide-ranging lyrical ideas and themes. They still indulge in boastfulness and occasional dark imagery, but it is done in a much more playful (though not at all lighthearted) way and is interspersed among ideas that reach far beyond hardcore posturing. On the suspense mystery "Spies Like Us," the duo spy on hip-hop, plotting and preparing to take it over, while they extend an invitation ...
