Catherine Keener, Danny DeVito, Edward Norton, Jon Stewart, Pam Ferris, Robin Williams - Director: Danny DeVito Randolph Smiley has it all--as the costumed star of the highest rated kid's show on TV, "Rainbow Randolph" has a Manhattan penthouse, a Times Square billboard featuring his beloved character, cars, boats, horses and all the indulgence that celebrity brings. Until he gets caught by the Feds in an under the table bribe, busted and instantly reviled, Randolph is a star no more. Enter Sheldon Mopes (Edward Norton) and his alter-ego "Smoochy", a puffy, fuscia rhinoceros. Smoochy is the perfect remedy for what ails the networks...Now it's Smoochy who has the swanky pent Robin Williams goes berserk as Rainbow Randolph, the disgraced host of a children's television show, in director Danny DeVito's fast-paced satire, DEATH TO SMOOCHY. Busted by the Feds for accepting a bribe to get a child on his show, Randolph gets booted from his network, Kidnet, and is replaced by the earnest do-gooder Sheldon Mopes (Edward Norton), who plays Smoochy, a loveable pink rhino with a strong resemblance to Barney. Sheldon sums up his own personality with a classic line, "When my brothers and I played cowboys and Indians, I was always the Chinese railroad worker." As Sheldon becomes a superstar, Randolph plots his revenge. Sheldon's refusal to push cheap toys and sugary drinks angers the Kidnet execs, especially tough-as-nails Nora (Catherine Keener). Sheldon also runs up against the Irish mob and his agent (DeVito) gets him into trouble with a corrupt charity. Meanwhile, Nora finds herself falling for the principled performer.
Robin Williams is amazing, completely shedding his "nice guy" persona and making the shockingly foulmouthed kiddie show host simultaneously hilarious and frightening. Norton does a great job of winning the audience over to his buffoonish but truly good hearted character. He and Keener lend heart to the scathingly funny script by Adam Resnick. Death To Smoochy Reviews: "...Williams throws himself into Randolph's mean-spirited mania with gusto and gets off some fine riffs....Keener is spot-on...and DeVito has his brash agent act down pat..."
-- Todd McCarthy, Variety "[I]t definitely has moments of genius..."
-- Total Film Staff, Total Film "DeVito's black comedy is ripe for discovery..."

Death To Smoochy Movie Review Average Rating: (2.3 out of 5 stars) Awful Robin Williams and Edward Norton are wasted away in this dark comedy that struggles to make you laugh. Submitted by Blake (Brandon,MS) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
"Smoochy" Is A Black Comedy Classic! Many have dismissed this movie as obscene and unfunny. True, it is a pitch black comedy about a deranged ex-kiddie TV show host planning to rub out his replacement, but the cast and writing are top-notch! If you enjoy dark humor and biting sarcasm, you'll love this movie! Brilliant performances by Robin Williams, Catherine Keener, and Edward Norton (compared to "Fight Club," this may come off as more light comedy). There is much humor to be found in the parodying of children's television and the manufactured style of it all. I have to say that I've been watching this movie regularly for a year now and it only gets better with every viewing! Fun music, big laughs, and a big purple rhino all make for a complete comic blast! Even my parents liked it! Hey, Warner Bros., where's the soundtrack?! Interesting previews don't guarantee a good movie Ever since watching "American History X", Edward Norton has been my favorite actor. He did a superb job in "Fight Club", as well as "Primal Fear" and "Rounders". After seeing the previews for "Smoochy", I thought it looked like an original, intelligent, and perhaps funny movie. It was none of the three. While I believe the premise of the movie is good--a profane, evil, former kiddie show host tries to derail his replacement--the writing was terrible, the acting was mediocre at best (with the exception of Catherine Keener's part), and had but one funny moment in it (which can also be disputed). It was when Randolph (Williams) runs out into the live kids show broadcast, and tells Smoochy that the cookie Smoochy's holding is deliberately shaped like a penis. Then goes off, in a George Carlin-like way, giving several synonyms for the word, which you may find funny. That is, unless you despise Williams's as a comedic actor. Overall, the movie was an extreme disappointment, for having Norton in it. Submitted by manchild500 (Camp Hill, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Funniest movie ever! Death To Smoochy is the funniest movie I've ever seen. Robin Williams truly shows that he has mastered comedy. The characters are very funny, the actors have great chemistry with each other. It might not be drama, or action, but you will laugh so much from Robin Williams. This is not a bad movie, it is what adult comedy is all about. Submitted by a reviewer (Austin, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Death To Smoochy review
$16.05 CHRONO CROSS, the sequel to the SNES favorite CHRONO TRIGGER, is one of the most ambitious role-playing games ever made. There are over 40 playable characters, each with their back-story, special moves, abilities, and weapons. The story spans two discs and follows the story of Serge, a young man who is able to cross dimensions. Suddenly he is pulled between worlds, trying to figure out his own past at the same time. The graphics are bright and beautiful, utilizing the PlayStation's capabilities to the fullest. The polygonal character models are huge and detailed, and the pre-rendered backgrounds are immaculately detailed. The music is composed and arranged by Yasunori Mitsuda, and features very realistic-sounding synthesizers. The battle system revolves around Elements, which are used to grant magical powers, as well as to summon huge monsters. For anyone that wanted to see the story of CHRONO TRIGGER continue, this is your chance.
