| | Motorhead Tear Ya Down: The Rarities CD Motorhead Discography of CDs
2 Cds-"Dirty Love"&"Stone Dead Forever"
Motorhead: Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (vocals, bass); Fast Eddie Taylor (guitar, background vocals); Philthy "Animal" Taylor (drums, percussion). Recorded in 1990 & 1997. Includes liner notes by Dave Ling. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Motörhead have an overabundance of rarities in their vaults, as evidenced by the bonus tracks included on the 2001 Castle reissues of their early releases. Somehow, the group even had more rare tracks lying around, which comprise the 2002 double-disc set Tear Ya Down: The Rarities. Like most rarities sets, Tear Ya Down will only be of interest to the hardest of hardcore Motörhead fans. Case in point: quite a few of the group's best-known tracks are included here in rougher alternate takes -- "Ace of Spades," "Shoot You in the Back," "Love Me Like a Reptile," and "(We Are) The Road Crew." But these tracks are not all that much different than the definitive versions (none of which surpass them, either). But on the other hand, there are quite a few tracks here that aren't included elsewhere (or pretty darn hard to find) -- "Hump on Your Back," "Godzilla Akimbo," etc. If you already own all the Motörhead classics (Overkill through No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith) and crave some rarities from this era, Tear Ya Down is a deserving purchase. But for most fans, the aforementioned rarities included on the Castle reissues will have already satisfied their appetites. ~ Greg Prato

Tear Ya Down: The Rarities
$10.69 During the late '90s, it seemed like prog rock had finally achieved extinction. But fast forward ten years later and the genre was thriving once more - as evidenced by the arrival of such groups as Astra and their 2009 full-length debut, THE WEIRDING (which includes some very Roger Dean-inspired cover artwork). Hailing from an area not exactly known for spawning prog goliaths (San Diego), THE WEIRDING is not all about fingers flyin' on the fretboard, however, as the group touches upon the spacy sounds of early Pink Floyd and King Crimson on the title track. And this same approach carries over throughout the entire album, as evidenced by such ditties as "Silent Sleep" and "Ouroboros," both of which follow the prog prerequisite of songs that stretch over ten minutes in length (and in this case, over 15 minutes). Unlike many other modern-day prog rock revivalists, ...

Their spastic blending of genres maintains a cohesive sound that draws in listeners from many musical worlds. Love it or hate it - as long as they get a strong reaction to their music, the members of this band will feel that they have done their duty. It's All Happening was produced by producer-extraordinaire Ross Robinson with engineer/producer Ryan Boesch at the helm. The album manages to take their complex sound one step beyond all expectations. You've be warned! Century Media. 2009.
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: Krysta Cameron, Krysta Cameron (vocals); John Ganey, Steven Bradley, John Ganey (guitar, programming); Mike Montgomery (drums, background vocals). Audio Mixers: Danny Sternbaum; Steven Bradley; Danny Sternbaum; Ryan Boesch. Audio Remixer: :A7IE:. Recording information: The Molt House, Venice, CA. With a sound as seemingly non sequitur, ever so ominous, also stupid (but in a good way) as their name, Iwrestledabearonce create a mind-bogglingly manic alt-rock pastiche with their debut full-length. Ostensibly a metalcore band, IWABO throw everything and the kitchen sink (and don't be suprised if there literally is a kitchen sink being played at some point) into their sound, rapidly shifting from blistering hardcore to dance pop to--sure, why not--adult contemporary singer-songwriter moves in the course of a single song. It's tough to say if IT'S ALL HAPPENING is the future of ...
