Remastered reissue of 1964 album, suitable for standard & 'Super Audio' CD players. Digipak. Abkco. 2002.
The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger (vocals); Keith Richards, Brian Jones (guitar); Bill Wyman (bass); Charlie Watts (drums). Includes the original release liner notes by Andrew Loog Oldham. Audio Remasterers: Jon Astley; Bob Ludwig; Steve Rosenthal; Teri Landi; Paschal Byrne. The evolution from blues to rock accelerated with the Rolling Stones' second American LP. They turned soul into guitar rock for the hits "It's All Over Now" and "Time Is on My Side" (the latter of which was their first American Top Ten single). "2120 South Michigan Avenue" is a great instrumental blues-rock jam; "Around and Around" is one of their best Chuck Berry covers; and "If You Need Me" reflects an increasing contemporary soul influence. On the other hand, the group originals (except for the propulsive "Empty Heart") are weak and derivative, indicating that the band still had a way to go before it could truly challenge the Beatles' throne. ~ Richie Unterberger 12 X 5 includes material recorded by the Stones at Chicago's Chess Studios (home to the band's idols Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf) on their first US tour. Though this document of the group's early R&B period kicks off with a couple of covers from unsurprising sources (Chuck Berry's "Around and Around,") Mick and Keith waste little time in displaying their own compositional acumen. The acoustic-based, bluesy "Good Times, Bad Times" harkens back to even earlier, more seminal Stones influences than Berry, as does the instrumental "2120 South Michigan Avenue," where the blues-obsessed Jagger's harp is featured a la his hero Little Walter. The downbeat, Arthur Alexanderish "Congratulations" is an effective expression of romantic melancholy, complete with acoustic guitar solo. The slide guitar chords on "Grown Up Wrong" echo another early blues influence, Elmore James. The milestones on this album are two R&B covers to which the Stones take more than a rote approach, "It's All Over Now" and the majestic "Time Is On My Side," which they make completely their own.

Rolling Stones 12 X 5 Songs 12 X 5 Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good and bad sound I guess the music on all of these new Stones remasters have been reviewed so many times that I think they are most interesting from a technical point of veiw. Do they sound better? What have been done to improve the sound quality? Have the original masters been located and used etc. I guess we won't get the answers from Abkco at least not in detail and certainly no commets to our specific questions. About 12 x 5 I think that those tracks now in stereo for the first time on CD are excellent. That makes the rest of the tracks (in Mono) sound even worse than before in comparison, espcially "Under the boardwalk" that has an azimuth problem that makes the "s" sounds a little distorted. The differences in sound quality contributes to the feeling that this is not a "real" album it is more like a compilation i.e. recordings from many different sessions not intended for an album from the beginnig. We europeans knows that that is the case with this album, but it has not been as evident as it is now. Submitted by a reviewer (Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.
Twelve songs by five guys U.S.'s second outing from The Rolling Stones.
These reflected their live show at the time.
It was originally released 10/64. "The Rolling Stones No. 2" was released in the UK 1/65, very similar but the UK has not released their version yet.
12 X 5 is a great album reflecting the bluesy period the band was still going through. Submitted by mike.decontreras (Anaheim, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
BRILLIANT STEREO TRACKS It's a pity that Abkco has not released the UK version of the first 2 Stones albums (THE ROLLING STONES & THE ROLLING STONES VOL. 2) in order to allow us fans to replicate the British discography, however this is a welcome release; half of the album is in true, superb, crisp stereo, and surpass by a mile the crappy 80s Abkco remaster. The mono tracks pales in comparison with the stereo ones, but still they are a vast improvement over the early Abkco CD. A must !!!!.

Some Stereo The tracks recorded in Chicago and that appeared on the original EP 4x4 are stereo, the balance mono. I was less than impressed by the overall sound quality of this reissue. Submitted by a reviewer (New York City, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.

He has certainly come a into his own style since then, crafting his timeless brand of music. Jesse’s songs capture an innocence and honesty that is hard to find, He writes everything from story songs and love songs to songs about every day life and the human condition. In Jesse’s music you can definitely hear the influence of early rock and folk, psychedelic country, and soul all mixed together to create his unique sound.“When Jesse sings his superbly written songs, he conveys the loneliness and longing of Gram Parsons’ best work with Emmylou Harris, the spirituality of the Innocence Mission, and the soulfulness of Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes. We love to play his music, weather it’s a homespun tape or a recording of a live show. He is the real thing,”-Folk Salad Radio, NPRJesse has been billed with the Grammy nominated Blind Boys Of Alabama, Eliza Gilkyson and Dwight Yoakam. Away from his pursuits as a solo singer songwriter, Jesse has nestled in quit comfortably as a member of The Dustin Pittsley Band. His unique style of playing guitar and lap steel has helped develop this group into the award winning band they are today. Jesse’s lap steel playing can sometimes sound like an organ or cello, and his electric guitar playing takes the song on a new ride every night. www.thedustinpittsleyband.com Jesse has just completed his first solo release, “Life’s Ladder” with producer and friend Jared Tyler.
