Stop the insanity! On second thought, if you're a grizzled Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra fan who remembers when fusion was fun, don't. Just listen and get wild with these three monsters who keep the tradition banging into the new millennium. Unlike some of these projects which seem designed only for those who like loud, in-your-face, crazy guitar crunching, there are some notable cooling elements that invite the less-intense fan into the festive tribal experience. Gambale's electric crackling on "All in Your Head" leads off and has listeners thinking "crazy jam for fusion headbangers," and "The Great Roberto" features this same guitar approach filtered sonically to be more brooding in spots than intense. But Gambale is an acoustic master as well, and lighter fingerpicking bouncers like "Confuse-a-Blues" and thoughtful ballads like "Saving Grace" go down easier. Smith is a world-class drum and percussion god, and his solo showcase "Culture Clash" finds him playing Indian rhythms on the kit and then doubling them (via overdubbing) on the djembe drum. Even though this type of free-for-all project isn't for everybody, it's a refreshing flip of the bird to the clenched fists, pigeonhole, happy, modern industry where middle of the road translates to big dollars. ~ Jonathan Widran

Great stuff Once having the opportunity to see Frank Gambale performing at Opiniao (Porto Alegre-Brasil) on the 'Passages' Tour (circa 1994), his talent never ceased amazing me. I strongly recommend everything recorded by this awsome musician. And this CD is my favorite. Submitted by Daniel Orlandini (Encantado, RS, Brasil) Was This Review Helpful? Should Be a Fusion Classic This CD marks the third time these fine musicians have made a CD. The old saying, "The third time's the charm," certainly applies here. The playing on this CD is fantastic. The tunes and interaction are top notch. If this had been recorded in the 70s, it would be a fusion classic. Buy it! Submitted by Mark Wellman (central Louisiana) Was This Review Helpful? wow this is the most amazing music ever heard. its not really the kind of music that you would sit around a camp fire playing on ur acoustic guitar. but its amazing. its the kind of music you can put on the cd player at a party and twist the night away to. or the kind of music you can turn the lights off and just space out listening to. i highly reccomend this to any acid jazz, jazz fusion, jazz, rock, jazz-rock fans who want more. a great performance by great musicians. $13.69 Johnny Duke and the Aces is a young, high-energy blues band inspired by Texas and Delta blues, Jazz, and Rock styles. They play both originals and covers, with covers varying from Robert Johnson to Jimi Hendrix. "Johnny Duke" Lippincott is an inspiration to guitarists all around the Delaware area. Having Mississippi roots, the Delta-blues style of music is frequently evident in his guitar playing. David Bromberg, Johnny's mentor, said in the international magazine Dirty Linen, "If you stick around tonight, there's a 16-year old guitar player who is as good a blues guitar player as any I've ever played with, and I've played with some really good guitar players. That's John Lippincott... ...
