Steve Roach knows this: the way into the deeper parts of the mind is through potent tribal drumming and hypnogogic sounds. From the first rise of Fayman and Kah's drumming to the last note of the CD, Trance Spirits is a deep, gorgeous album that thrills and relaxes at the same time. Roach's soundworlds run deep here, in swirls and vortices of sound, augmented on several tracks by Fripp's guitar loops. This is lucid dreaming caught on CD, and a perfect introduction to Steve Roach. Put on the phones, close your eyes, and let the drumming take your breathing--and your mind--to new, astounding places.
