 Capturing The Musical Genius of Buddy Rich
If you are a drummer this DVD is an absolute must. It truly showcases the overpowering musical contribution that was made by the "greatest drummer" of them all. From beginning to end this disc shoots for the limit with clip after clip of Buddy smoking! It's almost exhausting to watch Rich lay down the law time after time again. Unbelievable. One note: I had hoped that the DVD would showcase his funny and often caustic/dark side, such as his tempestous interviews on NBC with Johnny Crason (like when Doc Severson & Johnny set up a practical joke on the Tonight Show that enraged Rich to the point of screaming choice, if not volatile, language, etc). Instead we get the safe, "nice" Buddy Rich. Sure there are a few clips of him cracking wise with Carson. But people knew that Rich was not shy about his opinions regarding his own place in musical history, along with his views on a variety of subjects like country music, rock music, other drummers or former bands and bandmates. Buddy's outrageous, and at times controversial, personality was one of the things that made him endure the lean times when the public had left the big band sound for dead. He was a fighter and refused to retire or go away. But that side of the man is pretty much left out here. Nonetheless, because of his musical genius, which is VERY much in apparence in this wonderful selection, this DVD is as good as it gets!

 COOL!!!!!
Our son has been studying drums for 3 years and his teacher recently showed us part 2 of this set. We were blown away by Mr. Rich's ability. I am ordering this autobiography for our own music library not only for our aspiring drummer's education, but for the huge big band sound and awesome drum solos.

 Drummer Extraordinaire!
This is a must have DVD for all Buddy Rich fans. Not only does it give us a documentary on his life story, but contains many incredible solos. A joy to watch over and over.

 A True Jazz Great
I am not a drummer but I do enjoy jazz. Buddy Rich was so incredible, as were the bands he played with through the years. This is a must have for any jazz lover.
