Remastered reissue of 1969 album, suitable for standard & 'Super Audio' CD players.
The Rolling Stones: Mick Taylor (guitars); Keith Richards (acoustic guitar); Mick Jagger (harp); Bill Wyman (autoharp); Charlie Watts (drums); Brian Jones (percussion). Additional personnel: Nanette Newman, Mary Clayton (vocals); Ry Cooder (mandolin); Byron Berline (fiddle); Bobby Keys (tenor saxophone); Al Kooper (French horn); Ian Stewart, Leon Russell (piano); Nicky Hopkins (organ); Jimmy Miller , Rocky Dijon (percussion); Doris Troy, Madeline Bell, London Bach Choir (background vocals). Audio Remasterers: Jon Astley; Teri Landi; Steve Rosenthal; Paschal Byrne. Mostly recorded without Brian Jones -- who died several months before its release (although he does play on two tracks) and was replaced by Mick Taylor (who also plays on just two songs) -- this extends the rock and blues feel of Beggars Banquet into slightly harder-rocking, more demonically sexual territory. The Stones were never as consistent on album as their main rivals, the Beatles, and Let It Bleed suffers from some rather perfunctory tracks, like "Monkey Man" and a countrified remake of the classic "Honky Tonk Woman" (here titled "Country Honk"). Yet some of the songs are among their very best, especially "Gimme Shelter," with its shimmering guitar lines and apocalyptic lyrics; the harmonica-driven "Midnight Rambler"; the druggy party ambience of the title track; and the stunning "You Can't Always Get What You Want," which was the Stones' "Hey Jude" of sorts, with its epic structure, horns, philosophical lyrics, and swelling choral vocals. "You Got the Silver" (Keith Richards' first lead vocal) and Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain," by contrast, were as close to the roots of acoustic down-home blues as the Stones ever got. ~ Richie Unterberger The last Stones studio album of the '60s finds the band, for perhaps the first time, accurately reflecting the spirit of its age. The erstwhile bad boy outsiders of rock now found themselves firmly in the center of the social and political post-'68 whirlwind, and faced up to the challenge magnificently. The band's confident climb to its artistic peak was begun by BEGGAR'S BANQUET, but LET IT BLEED is a quantum leap even from that musical milestone. The album's opener, "Gimme Shelter," with its insinuating guitar introduction, leads us decisively out of Flower Power and into a world where rape and murder are "just a shot away," and the Devil of BANQUET is very much alive and taking names. There's a nod to seminal influence Robert Johnson, whose "Love in Vain" is a mandolin-accompanied highlight. The climax arrives in the form of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," bearing references to the fallout of the Swinging London era. LET IT BLEED finds the Stones brimming with musical confidence and artistic inspiration.
Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.106) - Ranked #32 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...[The album] rattles and burns with apocalyptic cohesion..." Rolling Stone (p.147) - 5 stars out of 5 - "[I]t's a howling force of nature....This is the sound of the world coming to an end. LET IT BLEED offers sympathy, in that slutty, decadent way that was the Stones' specialty." Entertainment Weekly (9/20/02, p.104) - "...Impeccable..." - Rating: A Q (6/00, p.74) - Ranked #28 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "...A watershed album...one that brought the curtain crashing down on the '60s....[They] played badboy blues-rock better than any white band alive, on either side of the Atlantic." NME (Magazine) (7/8/95, p.46) - 9 (out of 10) - "...it tugs and teases in all directions, from the gospel-tinged lament `You Can't Always Get What You Want' to the voodoo wail of `Midnight Rambler' and `Gimme Shelter' to the redneck farce of `Country Honk'. A classic..." Rolling Stones Let It Bleed Songs Let It Bleed Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Let It Bleed, Forever And Ever, Amen. This album is a masterpiece, it's that simple. The Stones were "inspired" when they wrote and recorded it. The first cut, "Gimmie Shelter", is one of the GREATEST rock songs ever made. The last cut, "You Can't Always Get What You Want", is one of the greatest power ballads ever made. It describes the turmoil of the 60's, personal and political, and the choir dramatically illuminates the lyrical content. It is just breathtaking. In between these 2 monumental cuts, you will find such gems as:
"Love In Vain" - lowdown blues with fantastic interplay between Mick's flawless vocal and the guitarists' licks
"Country Honk" - the title says it all
"Midnight Rambler" - the seamy side of criminal life, given the full sleaze treatment
"Monkey Man" - awesome lyrics, blistering guitars, great tinkly piano.
As far as the title cut is concerned, "Let It Bleed" is ABSOLUTELY the most deliciously NASTY counterculture song I have ever heard IN MY LIFE!
Look, if you like classic rock and you somehow don't have this album, get it NOW. If you have a worn-out LP, like I did, buy the remastered CD. It's worth it.

Stones Do It Again The Stones are the best and this early work "let it" come through. The songs are varied in structure and tempo with all the great tonal qualities that the old stuff used to have. This cd has been re-mastered, too. Submitted by flstmari (Galveston, Tx USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Basic instinct blues-rock I first bought this stones' lp
when i was just fifteen years old,
and it really conditioned my music
preferences.
It still gives me shivers when I'm
listening to it.
Mick Tailor's tremendous guitar breaks
in midnight rambler make you understand that he's a deep and talented guitar-hero and Stones did lost very much when
this artist left the group.
The feeling is true and strong, Keith
and the two Micks at their best.
Get yer ya ya's out, USA 1969 tour was
the crowning of this fabulous period. Submitted by MG3860 (Rome IT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Awesome The remastering has definitely helped the overall sound of this album. Mick's vocals are clearer, the bass is more pronounced and Keith's guitars sound as if he's in the room with you. A must buy for any Stones fan. Submitted by a reviewer (Tennessee) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Let It Bleed
$13.15 Former singer and chief songwriter in The Verve, one of the most influential and successful bands of the 1990' s, returns with his third solo outing 'Keys To The World'. ..featuring the firts single 'Break The Night With Colour'. Richard marked his new return with a stunning performance of The Verve's ' Bittersweet Symphony' (with Coldplay) at recent Live 8 show. By way of introducing Richard Ashcroft, Chris Martin described The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' as The best song ever written, sung by the best singer in the world. Capitol. 2006.
The former frontman for the Verve delivers his third solo effort with 2006's KEYS TO THE WORLD. Richard Ashcroft seems to be moving further and further away from the epic drone-rock of his former band with each release. If "Why Not Nothing," the opening track on KEYS, were any clue, Ashcroft's third album might have signaled a trip to Muscle Shoals and an album fully steeped in horn-driven soul of a 1960s mode. Elsewhere, however, Ashcroft's sonorous voice is complemented by swelling strings, synthesizer, piano, and layered guitars, and, despite the groovy opening track, the vibe of the album is consistently downtempo, soulful, and moody, with none of the crunching rock of early Verve releases in sight. That said, Verve fans may want to proceed with caution, but fans of Ashcroft's solo work should give KEYS a listen. Richard Ashcroft deserves kudos for his, um, balls. But then again, a man who claims his last recording, 2002's Human Conditions, was the artistic equal of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On is tough to like, too. While many thought he had slunk into the murky depths after the critical and commercial drubbing of Human Conditions, Ashcroft was simply pondering what happened and deciding it was everybody else's fault the record tanked. Three and a half years later, the Verve's former frontman is back with a record not terribly different, though certainly more pastoral and perhaps more middle of the road. Those who fell ...
