Earthbound album for sale Product Description
Earthbound album for sale by King Crimson was released Sep 03, 2002 on the Caroline label. Originally released in 1972, the first King Crimson live album was an anomaly in the band's career, with its often chaotic interpretations of Crimson favorites like "21st Century Schizoid Man" and "The Sailor's Tale." There are attempts at free jazz and funk on "Groon" and "Peoria," and while this version of Crimson differs wildly from later incarnations (the only member remaining after the tour on which these recordings were made was Robert Fripp), EARTHBOUND is an interesting artifact of the band's experimental early phase. ...See Full Description

| ONLY FOR TRUE KING CRIMSON FANS I think this is an interesting album but then, King Crimson is one of my all-time favorite bands and I like everything they do! If you're not like me you might not appreciate this album very much, but if you love KC then you should know these guys don't do the same thing for a long time and you'll probably enjoy Earthbound; I'll tell you, it's the only album where you can hear King Crimson playing blues, that alone makes this CD worth having! | Good to Hear Again Guess Fripp and company could only do so much with the sound. Sounds as bad as it did when it first came out on LP. However, the performance is quite powerful. This band could really improvise - blowing like the best of the jazz ensembles. Raw energy and a quick glimpse into quite an interesting line of Crimson make this worth owning. | Often maligned for sound, this is a can't miss CD This CD is a must have for KC fans if only for "Peoria". This is the most rippin' sax solo you're likely to ever hear. This ranks up there with the sax solo from Frank Zappa's "Gumbo Variations", but is even more powerful. To this day, when some kid remarks about some great sax line from a current pop song, I pull this track out to show them what is really capable. People often bark about the sound quality on this live album. I actually had the old vinyl version when it was considered a bootleg with Fripp vowing to sue anyone that released it. Thankfully, it is now officially released because the sound really isn't that bad. It's a bit fuzzy in the bass and frizzled in the high end, but it is certainly clearer than the majority of my other bootlegs. | Great live album by King Crimson Right. This live record, "Earthbound", is considered their worst by many. But I think it's actually a great set of performances. "21st Century Shizoid Man" is performed with a lot of energy, here, with distored vocals by Boz(This album was recorded during the Burrell/Collins/Fripp/Wallace days, not with Wetton/Cross and Bruford, as mentioned above) which sound pretty weird. The sax and guitar solos are done spectacularly, as usual. There's some funky/jazzy improvizations by the band:"Peoria" and the title track. Mel Collins plays a sick saxophone, almost tearing it into two. Fripp plays the role of the rythm guitarrist, mostly. This is until the last part of the songs(both Peoria and Earthbound), when he solos for a while. Ian Wallace and Boz keep the rythm section very well, and the latter sings some improvized stuff. There's a shortened version of "Sailor's Tale" with stunning drums, nice bass lines, great guitar and sax interplay and some mellotron towards the end. Awesome piece, which defines their "Progressiveness". Finally, "Groon" is very enlarged with a lot of free jazz improv and a freaked out drum solo. So, overall it's a great record. The reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars are that the sound quality is kinda bad, and there's a bit of lack of material( It would have been better to hear stuff like "Cirkus" and "Pictures of a City" here). But, anyway, it's a worth getting album, and very entertaining. By Franzman (Wallingford, CT, USA) This review is for a different format. |
