With TOO TOUGH the Ramones take on the '80s, and the '80s go down with a second round TKO. After a few fallow years and some substandard albums (by the band's standards anyway), they came rushing back into the ring with a fresh sense of purpose. The addition of new drummer Ritchie Ramone and the return of long-lost brother Tommy (who sat in as producer along with original engineer Ed Stasium) doubtlessly added some fuel to the fire, creating this punchy, revved-up, and highly worthy addition to the Ramones' catalogue.
TOO TOUGH finds the Ramones expanding their musical palette further than usual, adding crunchy metal riffs to the title song and "I'm Not Afraid of Life," while "Howling at the Moon (Sha-La-La)" adds new wave keyboards courtesy of the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. The adventurous Dee Dee takes center stage for two hardcore songs, "Endless Vacation" and the manic "Wart Hog," giving Joey a brotherly run for his money. The best example of a Ramones formula song, "Durango 95," was destined to become the band's concert intro song. TOO TOUGH is proof positive that the words "punk" and "longevity" can go together in the same sentence.

After doing some pretty weird stuff on the last three albums (Working with Phil Spector, Grham Ghouldman and covering the song Time Has Come Today) This might be the weirdest! This is closer to heavy metal than the early punk stuff! But hey!!! It still rocks really hard! This is just as good as the first four. It is kind of strange that they went from amazing punk rock to pop and then coming back with their hardest album. This is all because
Dee Dee Ramone got Tommy Ramone to produce this album. Also they have a new drummer, Richie Ramone.

 Too Good To Not Buy
I love the Ramones, and this is one of their finest albums ever. The price, coupled with new packaging, a slew of bonus tracks, makes this an exceptional buy.

wild angry ramones
who knew? who knew that the ramones after years of sloppy sales of pop and oldies experiments they come back with this. hardcore was sprung about in 1984 when black flag, husker du, agnostic front and all these bands seem to outsmart the class of '77 bands but the ramones fire back with too tough to die. the speedy punk rock album. wart hog, durango 95, planet earth 1988 and more fill the album with rage, power, p and v and a whole lot more. this reminds me of the first decline movie and the first one is punk the second metal. the first movie caused such a riot that it was banned. i wish they do a re-release but american hardcore already beat it to the punch. 1234!.

This is probably the last of the classic Ramones albums, although it isn't without it's faults. The harder sound of the earlier albums is back with a much more modern sound that sets it apart from the earlier albums. However a lot of the groups freshness and spontenaity is lost. Mama's Boy, Too Tough To Die, Howling At The Moon and Endless Vacation are the essential tracks from the original album and the cover of Street Fighting Man is unbeatable. Despite it's faults this album is still well worth buying.
