Hoping to win Mary Jane's heart using his new talents, Peter becomes distracted from home life with his doting Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) and Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson), ultimately leading to tragedy--and his new role as the crime-fighting Spider-Man. Meanwhile Harry Osborn (Willem Dafoe), the industrialist father of Peter's friend Norman (James Franco), undergoes a transformation of his own, bringing about the creation of Spider-Man's arch-nemesis: The Green Goblin. In order to save his loved ones--and all of New York City--from the devastating force of the deluded Goblin, Spider-Man must take on the villain in a series of stunning battles.
By staying true to the essence of the comic book, Raimi accomplishes the rare feat of crafting a superhero movie with a real heart. Rather than focusing solely on action and explosions, SPIDER-MAN wisely shines the spotlight on the character of Peter Parker, played with perfect bewilderment by Maguire. The special effects, of course, are dazzling, but they are topped by an excellent cast that also includes the radiant Dunst, the menacing Dafoe, the brooding Franco, and the scene-stealing J.K. Simmons as Peter's tough-talking boss. (Raimi fans will notice cameos by the director's brother, Ted Raimi, and EVIL DEAD series star Bruce Campbell.) The result is a charming and amazingly entertaining film unafraid to combine CGI animation with sincere human emotion. Great
Spider-Man is a great movie, but it could have been slightly better. They left out one of the most important stories in Spider-Man's history (his relationship with Gwen Stacy and her tragic death at the hands of the Green Goblin). Also, Green Goblin's costume looked kind of stupid. It should have been his green and purple costume from the comics instead of a flight suit for his glider. The movie is immensely entertaining and I have seen it so many times I have lost count. I love watching it and I highly recommend this movie

OK. SPIDERMAN DID VERY WELL AS A GREAT ACTION MOVIE. HOWEVER THE LOVE STORY IN THIS MOVIE FLAT OUT SUCKED. FOR A MOMENT I THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO BE THE BEST MOVIE I EVER SAW SINCE BATMAN UNTIL THE ENDING CAME AND RUINED THE MOVIE. (I REMEMBER PEOPLE WALKING OUT OF THE SHOW CALLING TOBY MAGUIRE GAY). YOU NEVER HAVE THE ROMANTIC LEAD EVER DUMP THE GIRL AT THE END OF THE MOVIE. OTHERWISE THE FILM ITSELF IS WORTH SEEING.

The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well as some excellent comic dialogue.
