Black & White; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English A poor young lad finds his life changed when he leaves the streets of New York City to become an English lord. Freddie Bartholomew (DAVID COPPERFIELD, CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS) plays Cedric Errol, a poor Brooklyn boy destined for greatness in this film based on the lovable story by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Although Ceddie doesn't know it, his deceased father was an English nobleman. When it becomes apparent that Ceddie is heir to an English title and an immense fortune, his mother (Dolores Costello Barrymore) takes him back to England, where they discover that her father-in-law, the earl of Dorincourt (C. Aubrey Smith), despises Americans. To win his birthright, Ceddie must struggle against false claims to his title as well as his grandfather's cantankerous disposition. Director John Cromwell (SO ENDS OUR NIGHT, OF HUMAN BONDAGE) at times considered LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY his finest film; with a graceful script by novelist Hugh Walpole, an excellent supporting cast, a buoyant sense of humor, and a gem of a performance from Bartholomew, he may well have been right.
This is the only Eric Alden video. Stars also making their debut in this video: Daisy Belmore, Elsa Buchanan, Alex Pollard, Prince, Ivan Simpson, Joseph Tyzack. Little Lord Fauntleroy Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) heartwarming An old fashioned feel good movie. Submitted by mesarexis (mesa arizona) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
5 Stars for Little Lord Fauntleroy I saw this movie as a young teenager and feel in love with it. When I saw its availablity I had to own it. It is such a tender and heartfelt movie. It shows the splendor of England and the early days of America as a strapping country of industry and economics. Freddie Bartholemew and C. Aubrey Smith roles were spectacular as grandson and grandfather. The on screen chemistry between them were as if their roles were REAL. Even Delores Costello Barrymore was beautiful and exuded true poise and grace as the Mother of "Ceddie" could only be portrayed. *It is a must see for the family. I was very well pleased with purchase of this movie and its quality. Submitted by enochts (Durham, NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
LOOKING FOR GOOD LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY IS A STORY HOW LOOKING FOR GOOD IN SOMEONE CAN CHANGE THEIR LIFE. THE GRANDFATHER LIVING IN ENGLAND HAS LITTLE LOVE FOR ANYONE, AND IN RETURN GET LITTLE LOVE FROM ANYONE -- UNTIL LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY ENTERS THE SCENE. THIS FILM IS INDICATIVE OF HOW LIVING CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES CAN CHANGE A PERSONS LIFE. Submitted by gregm (LOWVILLE NEW YORK USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful. Great picture quality You'll find the very best picture quality on the Anchor Bay release of this public domain movie. The picture is crystal-clear. The trailers and "making of" feature are unique to this version. Highly recommend that you forget other labels for this film--the Anchor Bay release won't disappoint you! A "keeper" and precious night-time fairy tale. Put this dvd on your shelf, and you’ll reach for it over-and-over, on stormy evenings, when you need a “feel-good” dose of medicine, and a desire to believe in the power of love.
Sir C.A. Smith transforms the gruff can’t-crack-a-smile British grandfather into a loving protective patriarch == made believable through true good acting and classic warm scenes that make you want to reach through the TV and sit between him and his dog by the fire, knowing Freddie has grandfather’s love.
It is a sterling quality performance by Sir C. Aubrey Smith, highly-respected British actor –who deserves his rank/title for this and his other performances;
Beginning in turn-of-the-century New York the tale moves through to England offering beautiful sets/locations, 300+ year old churches, castles and cottages.
Freddie Bartholomew worked his own childish charm so well that the magic is worked bordering on fairy-tale ideals and principles ---- but in a real-life situation that could be a true life experience because of British laws.
Additional excellent performances by Delores Barrymore and Mickey Rooney give balance and fairy-tale quality.
The black and white film is magical and helps to travel back 110 (?) years. It’s a gentle ride there and back through this movie.
As it's one of my own personal favorites I gave it 5 stars.

Little Lord Fauntleroy film
$15.65 Starring Charles Laughton as the severely misshapen bellringer Quasimodo, William Dieterle's adaptation of the familar Victor Hugo classic is set in the bustling society of 15th-century Paris, as the forces of church and state strive to maintain their sway over a populace struggling for a better life. Jean Frollo (Cedric Hardwicke), chief justice of Paris, unites secular and religious authority in one foully hypocritical personage. Spying a spectacularly beautiful Gypsy woman named Esmeralda (Maureen O'Hara) in church, he sends his factotum, Quasimodo, to abduct her. Frollo's plan is foiled by Phoebus, captain of the guard (Alan Marshall), and the hunchback is sentenced to public flogging ...
