| | Stephanie Nakasian Lullaby In Rhythm CD Stephanie Nakasian Discography of CDs
Stephanie Nakasian has long been a well-respected singer, but one who has not been given half the recognition that she deserves. However, this CD is quite definitive, a tribute to June Christy. Nakasian had been a major hit at a West Coast jazz convention/festival a few years earlier, singing songs associated with Christy and sometimes sounding remarkably close to her. The 17 selections on this CD include such June Christy classics as "Lullaby in Rhythm," "Gone for the Day," "Midnight Sun," "Lonely Woman," "I Want to Be Happy," and of course her trademark "Something Cool." Assisted by the Stan Getz-inspired tenor of Harry Allen, trombonist John Jensen, and either Hod O'Brien or Larry Eanet on piano, Stephanie Nakasian lets her own personality into the music while sounding eerily like Christy in spots. The arrangements are as inspired as the singing, making this set a classic of its kind. ~ Scott Yanow

Lullaby In Rhythm album
$13.85 There are times when you listen to this recording and, if you close your eyes, you would think you were listening to Susannah McCorkle. That is how powerful Dena DeRose can be. For this, her third release for Sharp Nine Records, the vocalist continues to dazzle with her sensuous voice and confident style. Once again, she assembles a strong team to accompany her, including drummer Matt Wilson, vibist Joe Locke, and Jim Rotundi (on a couple of tracks). When DeRose is at her best (as she is on several tracks), she is as good a singer as there is. Her "Day in Day Out," taken up-tempo, hearkens to the great vocalists of years past. DeRose gets inside the lyrics, and with a slight vibrato ...

Lullaby In Rhythm music CDs
$12.49 The 2002 vocal jazz scene shifts back to what it must have been like during Duke Ellington's highly successful residency at the Cotton Club with the debut of Jackie Ryan's Passion Flower. The sultry vocalist debuted with 14 tracks that exude style, class, and sensuality and a true knowledge of the jazz vocals idiom. Ryan has a marvelous voice, and her approach is tasteful, swinging, and heartfelt on her flower-medley tribute to Billy Strayhorn, which she has titled "A Bouquet for Billy." The medley consists of "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing" and the title track, "Passion ...
