(5 Customer Reviews)
Recorded live at the Avalon Ballroom, Boston, Massachusetts in March 2002. Includes liner notes by Nancy Hammerle Teacher and Dennis Lshane Author.
This Boston-based Irish punk band's proletarian, all-for-one attitude, as espoused consistently in its lyrics, is perhaps best exemplified by a live album like this one, where their energy and communal relationship with their audience can be clearly heard. You can hear the crowd chanting along to the lyrics of Dropkick Murphys' working-class anthems with faithful vigor, and the band responds in kind by kicking the already-high energy level up even further. Though their blend of punk and Celtic flavors is unique (they surely don't have much company in blending punk guitars and bagpipes), the sound (and the sociopolitics) also bear strong echoes of early Oi outfits like Sham 69, all rousing shout-along choruses and martial rhythms. Interestingly, its when they tackle the more Irish-sounding tunes (as on "The Rocky Road to Dublin") that the boys seem to be at their punkiest.

Dropkicks' best LP. One of the best live albums I have ever heard. Most punk bands suck at playing live, but here some songs' live versions are better than the studio ones. The gig is awesome, i watch and listen to it so often that i know the lyrics by heart hyhy... Dropkicks are probably the best american punk band now, shame they wont play a gig in Poland ^^. A MUST!!! Submitted by Chris (Warsaw, Poland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

The Barroom Heroes At Their Best: LIVE! This live album is on of the best ever released by the 'Murphys. Recorded from the sold-out St. Patrick's Day concerts, every track captures the energy and the passion between the band and their fans. The fans cheer and sing in choruses, the music is addicitive and powerful, and the bagpipes make the whole experience unique and even more captivating!
If you are new to the Dropkcik Murphys, and want to find out what the band is all about, then you should get this album first. The songs are accurately sang and played, the sound quality is superb, and the whole ambient enables the listener of thi album to experience a live concerts with the boys from Boston. It is rare for a punk-rock band to release a 26-track long live-album, and the Murphys have done an excellent job at it; capturing everything that happened during that amazing concert(s)! REAL PUNK!! This is good old American punk at its finest. Usually live punk albums suck, not this one folks. These guys know how to control a crowd and have a good time, not to mention have talent. Too many of these so-called "punk" bands today are nothing more than crap. They owe any money that they get to the REAL punks who pioneered what used to be a style of music that no one liked except the REAL punks of the world (you know who you are). This candy coated crap that airs on the radio and that damn, worthless MTV needs to stop purifying punks reputation. Punk is not for the masses. If you're into lame ass bands like Blink 182 then don't buy this, the mighty Murphy's wouldn't want you to. Instead go down to your local mall, buy a Green Day T-shirt, get some "crazy" piercing, and pick up the latest album by some crappy, diet-punk band you saw on MTV for $18.99! | | Flaming Lips Finally, The Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid CDs (2002)
Live On St. Patrick's Day CD music
$28.69 Finally, the Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid is the first, and largest, of two archival sets from Restless which collects nearly all the material released by the Flaming Lips before they left independent rock for one of the most unexpected major-label deals in history. Over the course of three discs, it tells the story of what Wayne Coyne calls "a talentless, inexperienced, poorly conceived, poorly equipped drug damaged group of friends and family who had an enthusiasm for punk, new wave and classic rock." It's difficult to argue with any assessment from the notoriously honest Coyne, and especially so based on much of this material. It begins with the band's debut EP from 1984, five rockers that certainly aren't pedestrian, but also don't make much sense. Coyne's brother Mark -- later the subject of the classic "Put the Waterbug in the Policeman's ...

Live On St. Patrick's Day music CDs
$8.99 James Hindle's sophomore release shows the British folk singer hitting his stride with 11 songs of gentle, well-crafted simplicity, laced with a good deal of pop sensibilities. Each tune is held together by a variety of instruments including harmonica, organ, violin, piano, and glockenspiel. Most of the tunes have a pleasant disposition, some are more somber, others are rather rollicking. Hindle's voice is tender and reminiscent of some of the great folk-balladeers like John Denver and Paul Simon. Prospect Park shows a good deal of progress for Hindle, and is much ...
