| | Shalamar Nights To Remember CD - Import Shalamar Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
A Shalamar feast (15 songs) featuring all of their lead singers: Gerald Brown, Jody Watley, Howard Hewett, and Sidney Justin. Brown, Shalamar's first male lead, mimicked Smokey Robinson on "Uptown Festival" (unedited) and a remake of the Miracles' "Ooo Baby, Baby," both included. Exit Brown, for unknown reasons, and enter Howard Hewett for their longest and most successful chart run. Hewett, with Watley and Jeffrey Daniels, powered the groups' most successful chart run, which included the hits "Take That to the Bank," "Right in the Socket," and "A Night to Remember." Omitted is "For the Lover in You," arguably their most popular recording. This is a fatal mistake for a Shalamar compilation and will cause many not to purchase it. The oversight is analogous to a Billy Paul compilation with no "Me and Mrs. Jones." The cover photo shows the original lineup of Brown, Watley, and Daniels. ~ Andrew Hamilton

| | David Bowie Best Of Bowie CDs (2002) Bonus CD; Remastered; 2 CDS
Nights To Remember CD music
$19.49 This edition of BEST OF BOWIE will only be available 12.2.2003-3.31.2004.
Ably serving as a substitute for the excellent but out-of-print collection BOWIE: THE SINGLES 1969-1993, the two-CD BEST OF BOWIE serves as an outstanding career-spanning retrospective featuring material from as recent as 2002. Above all reflecting the visionary aptitude of a restless creative genius who switched into different musical guises the way some people change suits, these 38 cuts trace David Bowie's path from space-rock folkie ("Space Oddity") and glam god ("Ziggy Stardust") to blue-eyed soulster ("Young Americans"), and cutting-edge futurist ("Fashion").
21st-century kids might be aware of Bowie via covers by Nirvana ("The Man Who Sold The World") or the Wallflowers ("Heroes"), but it's equally likely they've heard playlist war-horses like '80s alt-pop classics "Let's Dance," "Modern Love," and "China Girl." Not to be missed are this icon's stellar collaborations with a wide range of talent including John Lennon ("Fame"), Queen ...

Nights To Remember songs
$12.15 One of the few early-wave Norwegian black metal bands still making music in the early 2000s, Enslaved has also remained quite prolific. Below the Lights is their third album of the decade, and with it, they unfold a rare balance between remaining innovative and experimental without getting into a lot of electronic trickery. Often that balancing act takes place literally, the band coming up with odd juxtapositions such as layering a sad, soaring guitar solo over a fierce blastbeat ("As Fire Swept Clean the Earth"), or a bluesy hard rock solo over a galloping black metal backdrop ("The Dead Stare"). At other points, the contrasts are more clear-cut, such as the abrupt switch into the death metal-ish middle section on "As Fire Swept..." Elsewhere, Enslaved also offers up chanting Norse vocals and intricate prog-rock passages ("Havenless"), a harmonically unusual guitar/flute/drum intro ("Queen of the Night"), some tasteful synthesizer passages, and plenty of good ...
