As part of the prolific flow of material that found him releasing three albums in two years, ex-Whiskeytown frontman Ryan Adams continued to surf his wave of popularity with 2002's DEMOLITION, a baker's dozen worth of demos. Culled from five separate demo recording sessions, these songs find Adams all over the stylistic map indulging in some twangy, pedal-steel-soaked tendencies ("Hallelujah"), making like Paul Westerberg with a Byrds Jones ("Gimme A Sign"), and tucking into echoey ballads ("Dear Chicago").
Adams also delicately duets with fellow y'alternative stalwart Gillian Welch ("Tomorrow"), mixes it up with Dylan's pedal steel player Bucky Baxter ("Chin Up, Cheer Up"), and still manages to get the girls to swoon on solo-acoustic odes laced with plenty of yearning and a forlorn harmonica solo ("Desire"). Until Adams finds time to bang out another double album in-between touring, rubbing elbows with Elton John, and curing cancer, DEMOLITION makes a fine stopgap for both diehard and casual fans.

Ryan Adams Demolition Songs Demolition Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Simply Irresistable I haven't heard of ryan adams till now and in him i find bits of roy orbision and bob dylan. Desire and Cry on demand are my favourites here. Most of the other songs cool too and i must say he is simply one of the best new artist i've come across. Looking forward to hearing more from him in the future. I wish there are more stars to rate this simply irresistable album :) Submitted by a reviewer (india) Was This Review Helpful? Wow, this guy is talented. I just got up on Ryan Adams, and his albums blow me away.
This albums is great. It's basically a bunch of Demos, but it sounds better than the majority of music released in 2002.
Adams has a knack for painting pictures. His songs are like mini portraits. They are hauntingly beautiful. It is unlike "Gold" or "lloR n kcoR" It is pretty much acousitc, and has a stripped down feel, giving more power to his voice and words.
You need to buy this album to see what a real musician sounds like. Submitted by mathan_e (Las Vegas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Don't bother -get Love is Hell, Gold, Cold Roses II instead Adams is annoyingly uneven with his albums.
You can skip his lame acoustic stuff (Cold Roses I, Demolition, etc.), which feature generic or non-existant melodies, sloppy arrangements and minimal production values. It's almost as if he wrote the songs 10 minutes before getting to the recording studio and never fleshed them out.
However, his electric stuff (Love is Hell, Gold, Cold Roses II) is much more interesting -- the songs are fully developed and arranged, with some tasty licks that show he actually put some effort into his work. Submitted by Russ (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
