Liner Note Author: Dave Thompson . Recording information: Olympic Studios, Barnes. Before the name Jimmy Page became synonymous with hard rock guitar, the guitarist was a much sought-after session player in London -- appearing on a variety of artists' recordings. Some were well known (the Kinks, the Who, etc.), but quite a few were obscurities -- which serves as the basis for the 20-track No Introduction Necessary [Deluxe Edition]. Although Led Zeppelin touched upon a variety of musical styles throughout their career, the first 14 tracks could all be neatly placed in the 1960s rock & roll/pop genre -- the amps are certainly not cranked to ten here. But you do get a glimpse into Page's playing as a 'hired gun' -- "Lovin' Up a Storm" and "Boll Weevil Song" are enjoyable (yet not exactly 'must-hear') selections. Closer to the hard rock sound you expect from Page are several tracks that close out the collection, which are taken from the obscure 1970 Screaming Lord Sutch recording, Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends. Page produces and plays on the record (even co-penning a few tracks), and while the music does reflect early Led Zeppelin at times (John Bonham also plays), the vocals of Screaming Lord Sutch don't come close to matching up to those of Robert Plant. Overall, not a bad compilation of Page's early playing. ~ Greg Prato

No Introduction Necessary (Deluxe) Music Jimmy Page No Introduction Necessary (Deluxe) Songs No Introduction Necessary (Deluxe) Music Review Average Rating: (2.5 out of 5 stars) Don't but this CD. This is NOT Zep style Page, it is really bad 50's style rock. Avoid this CD, unless you feel like contributing 15.99 to the Jimmy Page retirement fund. A Different Glimpse of Page No Introduction Necessary IS NOT a Zeppelin CD. Duh! It's a sample of the type of studio work Jimmy did outside of Zeppelin. It also features some fine guitar work from Albert Lee.
The best section of the CD, for Zeppenlin fans, would be the last 6 songs, which feature Page and Bonham. This material is the most 'Zeppelin like' and probably what most people buying this CD will enjoy hearing.
The version of the CD I got came with a poster, sticker, and picture of Page.
In addition to Page's contribution, the CD will also appeal to fans of Albert Lee. I'm glad to add it to my collection. Don't judge it by what it isn't. Submitted by trennasolz (Virginia, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

No Introduction Necessary (Deluxe)
$7.09 Personnel includes: Elton John (vocals, piano); Dee Murray (bass); Nigel Olsson (drums). Recorded live at A&R Recording Studios, New York, New York on November 17, 1970 for a live radio broadcast on WABC-FM, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by John Tobler. Digitally remastered by Tony Cousins (Metropolis Mastering, London, England). The great thing about this early live record is its obscurity -- not just that this isn't one of his better-known records, but that the set list is a fanboy's dream, heavy on album tracks, covers, and the kinds of song that make Elton John's early work so individual. It's not just that there are no hits here, but it's that these six (seven, on the CD reissue) songs emphasize the spare, hard-rocking bluesy singer/songwriter that may not have written his own words, but always sang them with conviction and melodies that made them seem like his own. This may be a minor effort in his catalog, but that's part of its pleasure -- it's certainly a record from the time before Elton the superstar, as he tears through Tumbleweed Connection tracks prior to the record's release, does a phenomenal reworking of "Honky Tonk Women," hauls out B-sides like ...
