| Nod And A Wink Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Just a Huge Fan! I really didn't catch up to this group until after college. Back in the old days, you could experiment in purchasing copies of inexpensive vinyl's to find those gems that no one ever heard of or cared about! Some of the progressive rock stuff didn't really go over as well in the US as it did in the UK! I first purchased "Snow Goose" on vinyl and enjoyed it much but for lacking any vocals! Then I purchased "Rain Dances" and just fell in love with this group! I must have played "Unevensong" a million times, the best dual guitar/keyboard mesh of all time in my book! My brand new copy was a little "poppy" with background noise, though! Then came "Breathless" and "Echoes" which even more astounded me! So after years of upgrading from vinyl to disc, I had to have the two cd Echoes compilation as well as my other favorites! When "A Nod and a Wink" came out, I had to have it right away, just knowing it would be great! It didn't dissapoint, either! It's a little more mellow than some of the past stuff, but all the bells and whistles are still there! Glad I bought it as a new release, though; looks a little pricey now as a $35 import! Great news from Camel I thought this kind of music didn´t exist anymore. Progressive but always melodical, icluding woderfull flute and guitar playing by Andy Latimer. Camel seems to be at it´s best and you can listen through all the CD without finding a week song. Thanks Andy Latimer. Submitted by a reviewer (Lima, PERU) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Camel Smokes Have followed these guys for a long time. Andy Latimer is one of the best guitar players around, not to mention his expertise on the flute. He always has great musicians on their albums. This album really grows on you Definitely one of the better Camel albums in my opinion. A bit unsure on first listening - with the exception of "For Today" which is one of the best songs ever done by Camel. This song is worth the price of the CD alone if only for that beautifully warm guitar solo at the end - WOW. Sends shivers down the spine and reminds me why I just love Camel's music.
As for the rest of the album, the more I listened to it, the more enjoyable it became. It is really interesting and there are some lovely and tasteful instrumental breaks. The guitar work is particularly impressive and enjoyable.
Wheraes Harbour of Tears had an Irish feel to it, this one has English folky influences both musically and, in places, vocally. (A couple of songs may even need a translator as the accents are so strong!). There is enough change throughout, even within indivdual songs, to keep you hanging in there for the next really cool bit even if ther is a monute or two of something you may not care for as much.
I can't fault the band for trying something different and would definitely recommend this CD. Submitted by Glen (Des Moines, IA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$12.69 "JAREZ" BIOGRAPHYSome musician’s wait and hope for great things to happen to them. Others take matters into their own hands. Jarez falls firmly into the latter category. From the time he started playing as a boy, the 28-year-old Southern California based jazz saxophonist has been steadily taking his music to new heights by continually creating new possibilities and stages for his music and jazz itself to be heard. On his new album, To The Top, one hears an incredibly gifted musician raising his game, and redefining what a jazzman can do in the 21st century.Raised in Inglewood, California, Jarez, (born Jarel Posey) grew up around music. His father, James Posey, a successful keyboardist, had his own studio, and young Jarel soaked in both the music and the constant creativity. His epiphany with the saxophone occurred in junior high when he was introduced to band. Wanting to quit, his teacher insisted that he continue with it, so he continued trying instruments, searching for something. That search ended the first time he touched a saxophone. He recollects, “When I played the sax the first time, there was something magical about it – even from the first note. All the kids looked at me when I started playing.”Jarel discovered that he was a prodigy, and after only six months of playing, he was in advanced band, was able to read and write music and was even tutoring other kids. By the time he entered high school, he was already a veteran of over 50 concerts. And starting then, he began to make jazz his life. He listened to and absorbed the greats of the genre – John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. He began to see how he could extend the tradition. And he began to get acclaim for his music – playing Ray Charles’ classic “Georgia On My Mind” at a jazz competition, he won first prize. The name on the award misspelled his given name, Jarel, turning it into “Jarez.” After getting over the embarrassment of it, he saw that “Jarez” was a far jazzier name, and took it on.After playing over 150 concerts in high school, Jarez tired of bands and competitions, so he took on learning the technical side of recording, learning how to engineer and produce. Jarez rapidly absorbed the ins and outs of the studio, and before long, he became a full time engineer and producer. In 2000, he was briefly signed to One Stop Records, a subsidiary of Universal, and had a project called “No Pressure,” that went to #1 on a few smooth jazz charts. ...

$11.39 I guess I don't need to tell you my name. By now you have seen it enough to know. I will give the highlights of my "musical" life in as brief a narrative as possible. I was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine on July 14, 1955. But Maine was not to be my home for long. By my 4th birthday, my Mother, her new husband and I were living in the Bahama Islands where my Stepfather had found work. I spent my childhood there, right up to the middle of my junior year in high school. The Bahamas at that time (1971) was in turmoil and fighting for independence from England. So, my folks decided it was not the best place for us to be.The family ended up living in Stuart, Fla., where I graduated from Martin County High School in 1973. I lived there for 2 more years, working during the day and playing in my first real "professional" band at 17. But, Florida held little in the way of opportunity for me, so I was on the move again. Following a girlfriend, I moved to the big city of Atlanta, Georgia during the summer of 1976. I quickly settled in to working and set ...
