Think about everything you like about A.F.I. and everything you like about pretty girls with beautiful voices and that will give you some idea why Hunter (AFI bassist) was so eager to produce and release the very first material from this explosive Northern California female fronted punk rock quartet. The follow up to Hunter's project was "The Invasion From Within" EP from Tomato Head Records and that grabbed our attention. Lead singer Agent M's command of the stage at Tsunami Bomb's infectious live shows made them everybody's favorite support and soon U.S. tours with AFI, Flogging Molly, the Vandals, etc., and sold out headlining shows all over the Western U.S. brought sales of the EP to over 10,000. Enter Kung Fu Records and mega producer Steve Kravac (MxPx) and the result is "The Ultimate Escape," a stunning debut of heavy punk rock with excellent songs and powerful, yet angelic, lead vocals supported by a band of solid punk rock dudes bringing home the anthems with full-force sing-a-long back up vocals. Nothing is held back with these guys.
Tsunami Bomb includes: Agent M (vocals); Mike Griffer (guitar); Dominic Davi (bass); Gabriel Landeman (drums). Additional personnel: Warren Fitzgerald (guitar). Recorded at T.O.N. Studios, Echo Park, California. Tsunami Bomb: Mike Griffen (guitar); Dominic Davi (bass guitar); Gabriel Lindeman (drums); Agent M. Photographer: Logan Whitehurst. Tsunami Bomb has shortened the fuse for its first full-length on Kung Fu, hacking off the keyboards that marred 2001's Invasion from Within and concentrating instead on uncoiling Agent M's explosive vocal presence over an album's worth of boisterous brass-knuckles California pop-punk. While it offers much more than head-rush instant gratification, Ultimate Escape's initial salvo is quite formidable. "Russian Roulette" douses its Andrews Sisters-style vocal harmonies in a punk rock solvent worthy of the Turbo A.C.'s, and establishes a fun, freewheeling call-and-response vocal style between the beguiling M and her band of dudes. The same sound dresses up the raggedy new wave tour van anthem "Roundabout," and also saves "Top 40 Hit" from crossing the median into cliché. The latter song's anti-corporate message rant is admirable (and true), but its vicious hardcore riffing might have been better served without the baggage. But that's a minor misstep on a record full of face-punching riffs and vocal hooks that just beg to be shouted at shows. "20 Going On...," "Headlights on a Hand Grenade," and triumphant, pogo-worthy closer "In This Together" are all standouts -- the latter might feature one of M's most powerful lyrics. "I can't even convey how safe I am (when you're around me)," she sings, and it becomes as much a dedication to a partner as it is a thank you to the fans. That's probably the greatest thing about Tsunami Bomb and Ultimate Escape -- the band's joy at playing is infectious, inherent, and totally ridiculous. It pushes their music past generalized comparisons to Green Day or any rock band that was ever fronted by a woman, and makes their record something more than another series of anthems and chord changes -- it's an escape from the mundane and the moneybags. ~ Johnny Loftus

| Ultimate Escape Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) I liked it. I liked it. Didn't care much for track 5 because it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the songs but overall I really like the album. Submitted by a reviewer (WI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pretty Great to be honest. Possibly one of the best pop punk rock bands around, I could go on to say that its a shame they don't get more recognition, but I wouldn't want to hear their tracks being overplayed. I seriously do love this band, and this album, they aren't trying to imitate any other punk band, Em's vocals are brilliant, they suite the mood and don't attempt to imitate anyone, same with the guitar and drums, I love the sound of the guitar on tracks like Take The Reigns and Say It If You Mean It. This Album deserves a 4.5 Stars, but I am not allowed to give that. My only bad aspect that is big enough to mention is that maybe, though "The Simple Truth" is quite a nice track, it damages the flow and feel of the album. Other than that, its great. Buy it if you like Punk Rock. Submitted by Vince (Wiltshire, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Good album, go listen :) Tsunami Bomb are a fantastic live act and this record manages to demonstrate that well. The tracks are lively, quirky and will have you singing along before you know it. A great album which you should buy, my only complaint is that the style is a little formulaic - a small moan about a great CD. Submitted by a reviewer (Glasgow, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$10.49 Too often in punk's past, the female-fronted acts typically found themselves heading in one of two directions--the seemingly wild, estrogen-fueled, usually-brash vocalist who'll pay more attention to the show than the music, or the cutesy, bubbly princess vocalists ...
