With I AM and STILLMATIC, Nas assured himself a permanent place in the history of hip-hop. The release of THE LOST TAPES, a collection of previously unreleased cuts recorded at those legendary sessions, adds to this considerable legacy. With most of these songs already cropping up as bootlegs on select underground mix tapes, this is the first official release featuring these songs mastered as Nas intended. Working with a number of sympathetic producers including The Alchemist, L.E.S., and Rockwilder, this gifted rhyme merchant drops captivating rhymes reflecting everyday life growing up in the Queensbridge projects, over a an assortment of mellow soul grooves. Using samples by Barry White ("No Ideas Original"), Mandrill ("U Gotta Love It"), and Eddie Kendricks ("Poppa Was A Playa"), Nas avoids any cameos or hype, presenting hip-hop in a stripped-down state that reaffirms the man's reputation as one of the genre's true legends.

Not just for Nas fans. But to all fans who love that pure East Coast hip hop of back in the day, this is it right here. This isn't none of that watered down commercial music we've been hearing for a long time now. This is true hip hop. The best songs are "Doo Rags", "Nothing Lasts Forever", "Purple" and "Drunk By Myself". In reality, there is not one wack track. BUY IT!!..

better than stillmatic
These songs didn't make the cut for Stillmatic? That doesn't make sense, anyway this is nas's second best cd behing you know what... I like tracks 1 through 12.

oh mann big ups to nas, he did it once again. Im not even surprised this is just what his fans have been waiting for. he demonstrait hisincredible word play and usage as no one else ever did. so anyone doubting nas just listen to anyone of theses tracks and be amazed

Awesome album, I waited for these songs to be released for 4 years. It is missing alot of other unreleased tracks, but I recently found out that nas is releasing a second installation of the lost tapes so all of those other joints will be released. As for this album it's so on point.''U gotta love it'' is one of my favorite nas jams of all time. I heard it on a mixtape, but he never put it on his Nastradamus album. When I heard it on The Lost Tapes I was real pleased. This album is a fan favorite because all those great unreleased songs are back in perfect quality.
