By the time the Columbus, Ohio garage-revivalist faves New Bomb Turks reached their final full-length in 2002, they'd slowed down their pace and picked up a few more cues from the mannered raunch of the Rolling Stones. Not that NIGHT BEFORE is without its fair share of sneer, as evidenced by the back-to-back hellraisers "Hassle St." and "Grifted." But on "Leaving Town" and "Like Ghosts," there are some serious, successful experiments with formidable hooks. And throughout the record, jangly percussion and dynamic arrangements provide EARTH with some of the meatiest, but no less snotty and silly, songs in the Turks' canon.
