Recording as A Triggering Myth, prog rock/fusion artists, drummer Vic Stevens and guitarist Scott McGill, augment the dual keyboard attack of Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller on this most interesting 2002 effort, Forgiving Eden. With pieces such as the opener "You May," the twosome melds lushly melodic acoustic-electric interludes with jazz grooves and ethereal synth treatments. The band's suave demeanor carries forth throughout the entire set, amid pieces that spark notions of strangely beautiful dreamscapes. McGill and Stevens add a jazz-fusion type-edge to certain tracks, as Eddy and Drumheller also implement synth horn sequences and minor shifts in strategy. They conjure up memories of Britain's fabled prog rock Canterbury Scene via an abundance of majestically stated choruses and twisting rhythmic endeavors. Through it all, the musicians' densely orchestrated compositions hit the mark, as Stevens and McGill triumphantly succeed at sustaining the listener's attention throughout this undeniably attractive and intelligently constructed production. ~ Glenn Astarita
For their fifth album, the instrumental rock duo of A Triggering Myth decided to compose a long form progressive rock symphony - 'Forgiving Eden' - a single 43 minute composition. In order to accomplish this, ATM members Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller decided to expand their lineup for the recording, enlisting noted guitarist Scott McGill and drummer Vic Stevens. Scott and Vic were able to introduce elements of fusion to the band's typical symphonic orientation. The results will speak to fans of both progressive rock and fusion. Musical reference points include the Canterbury sounds of Soft Machine and National Health as well as symphonic rock stalwarts Happy the Man and Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso. Forgiving Eden is packaged is a beautiful digipak featuring artwork and graphic design by Travis Smith.
A Triggering Myth: Rick Eddy, Tim Drumheller (keyboards).
Additional personnel: Scott McGill (guitar); Vic Stevens (drums).

| Forgiving Eden Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Fantastic Progressive Rock Wow, what a stunning piece of music. 43 minutes of perfectly executed progressive music that blends the best of symphonic and canterbury elements. And when I say 43 minutes, I'm not talking about a few pieces of music that, combined, time in at 43 minutes. No, not at all. Rather, I'm talking about one single piece of music that's 43 minutes long. Most amazingly, there isn't a boring second in this entire epic masterwork. Moreover, the piece contains 8 movements, but maintains a consistent focal point throughout each, effortlessly blending and transitioning from one to another for a thoroughly satisfying listening experience. Truly excellent music and equally excellent musicianship. One won't be sorry with this gem. Submitted by eprasek1 (Sunnyvale, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
progressive fusion i think that this cd is sort of a throw back to my favorite cd by triggering myth which is titled between cages. i have heard the cd prior to this one, and didnt like it as well, so i think this one is more in tune with what i like about this band. on first listen, i thought that it sounded like a cross between weather report, and elp. so if you like those two bands, then you would probably like this, even if you havent heard between cages, arguably their best cd. they've also incorporated the services of scott mcgill who is the guitarist in the fusion band, the hand farm. he is an excellent addition for these talented musicians, whose music i can best define as rock in oppositon. Forgiving Eden
$15.39 All the clichés ever used about instrumental prog rock at its best would be appropriate here -- "soaring," "anthemic," "powerful," "gorgeous," "cosmic," and so on. In truth, the CD itself builds on such clichés, but that's good news for anyone who wants to revisit the glory days of the genre -- or find out why this type of music still has so many fans. The veteran Djam Karet quartet (here bolstered by a second bassist) is blessed with two superb electric guitarists who also double on analog and digital synths, theremin, and samplers and a percussionist who also doubles on synths. Their music has a sweeping, epic sound very much in the tradition of early King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (minus the vocals). Djam Karet has been together for a rather remarkable 20 years with the same personnel, while remaining essentially an underground, West Coast phenomenon. Early on, they were essentially a guitar-driven electric jam ...

| | D F A 4th CD (2008)
Forgiving Eden
$13.79 The "Canterbury" musical style is uniquely wedded to a time and place -- late-'60s to mid-'70s England for the most part -- and so groups from other times and places that may be influenced by the Canterbury sound are usually described in just that way: "Canterbury-influenced" rather than real Canterbury. Well, with the arrival of 4th by the Italian quartet D.F.A., maybe it's time to consider that real Canterbury music can be played anytime, anyplace. For this album nails the most adventurous aspects of the Canterbury sound -- particularly that of Canterbury supergroup Hatfield and the North circa 1975's The Rotters' Club -- so completely and expertly that it's nearly impossible to view the album as a mere tribute or knockoff. And not a ripoff, either -- 4th is too fabulous to describe with such a pejorative, even if, strictly speaking, the album falls just a tad short in the originality department. ...
| | Mary J Blige What's The 411? CD (1992)
Forgiving Eden
$8.45 The opening track 'Leave A Message' is an immediately intriguing hook for the listener. A series of answering machine messages over a funky drum beat does not fail, even though most callers insist on saying 'peace' instead of 'goodbye' at the end of every call. The artist first appears on track two, and stays in control throughout an album of high-quality urban R&B/soul. Highly commercial, yet it never sinks to the blandness of some other 90s female pop acts. Tracks such as 'Real Love' lend more to the best of Aretha Franklin pop flirtations than to 90s R&B. Blige is Aretha's heir apparent.
