'80s pop faves Icehouse reissue their album MEASURE FOR MEASURE.
This Australian edition includes five bonus tracks.
Based on the principles of balance, Measure for Measure is half-produced by David Lord, half by Rhett Davies. American and European editions benefit from a better track list, which opens with the Davies-produced "No Promises." A little too close to Bowie and Metheny's "This Is Not America," perhaps, but very nice all the same. "Cross the Border" resembles and continues the close relationship with Simple Minds, and features a strong Brian Eno back vocal motif. Another of the RD-produced pieces, "The Flame," although about the struggles in South Africa, opens with a watery, orient-like synth treatment before a strong beat, courtesy of Steve Jansen, and a Talk Talk-sounding synth take charge. Newer realms are visited by Spanish guitar on "Angel Street," but the Bowie references can't be shaken, with much of the later part relying on squally glam rock ("Regular Boys" and the career-reviving "Baby You're So Strange"). Had the color of bonus CD cuts "Too Late Now" (a definitive Icehouse sound) and "Into the Wild" been included, how different things might have been. A few blocks up from the bland Sidewalk but a few buildings short of Man of Colours. ~ Kelvin Hayes

Primitive Man, Man of Colours, Measure for Measure,...I may say these are the heaviest albums ICEHOUSE ever made. I am still waiting for the final compilation which is the best of remix 12" extended version coded original ICEHOUSE. Jay of Dgte. City

 icehouse one of my 80's guilty pleasures...
this is one cd that i was thrilled to find again after mine was stolen . this is just before the mega album Man of Colours-- but this has the most haunting song No Promises. (remember the video?)
this is a gem for any icehouse fan... :)

grandiose sonic joy.
A great album of sumptiously recorded , grandiose rock. ROXY MUSIC always strived to sound as big as this, but only AVALON got close. It is quite magnificent. Other ICEHOUSE albums have a rockier edge, but are worth finding- very different from U.S. or Euro equivalents

Once you hear the unbelievable original version of No Promises, you should want this CD. Actually, five tracks really stand out here, including singles Cross The Border and Spanish Gold. The haunting Angel Street and told-you-so delivery on Mr. Big make this a very good effort. Thanks for the extra tracks too.

Icehouse sounded like Simple Minds but then also like Bowie at times ,yet also very original and fresh. This is one of their best albums now complete with a remastered sound/bonus tracks. Just listen to No Promises and you'll be hooked.

Nashville singer songwriter David Mead performs perfectly crafted pop songs, which probably explains why, by the time he'd released 2006's lush, impeccably realized TANGERINE, he'd been dropped by two major record labels. The gorgeous, wordless title track references the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and highlights of two decades of pop music in its first 30 seconds, while tracks like "Sugar on the Knees" and "Hallelujah, I Was Wrong" blend quirky soundscapes, sophisticated arrangements, and melancholy, reflective lyrics in a unique, sonically ravishing mix.
