Ain't Living Long Like This album for sale Product Description

Ain't Living Long Like This album for sale by Rodney Crowell was released Oct 22, 2002 on the Audium Entertainment label. Rodney Crowell's auspicious 1978 debut, Ain't Living Long Like This, not only showcases his songwriting prowess, but also his ability to deliver a song, whether it's one of his own or the work of another writer. Crowell possesses a sort of Everly Brothers, Nashville soul in his strong, emotive tenor, that's equally effective on the country-blues of Dallas Frazier's "Elvira," as it is on the rocking title cut or a country-folk ballad such as the self-penned "Song for the Life." Along with producer Brian Ahern (Emmylou Harris), Crowell employs a who's who of country and rock'n'roll session players, including James Burton and Glen D. Ain't Living Long Like This CD music contains a single disc with 9 songs.   ...See Full Description

Great Album
Rodney Crowell asserted himself with this album as a songwriter and musician. This album places him in the same realm as Gram Parsons and The Flying Burrito Bros.

It's About Time
Thanks for finally releasing one of my favorite albums of all time on CD. Brilliant songwriting. In fact, everything else he has done since ( and he has produced a great body of work), pales by comparison.

Ain't Living Long Like This buy CD music THE WIND won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Keep Me in Your Heart" was nominated for Song Of The Year and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. "Disorder in the House" won for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was also nominated for Best Rock Song. With the specter of a terminal lung cancer diagnosis hanging over his head, Warren Zevon responded by rallying to make THE WIND, an album that found him working with longtime collaborator and friend Jorge Calderon, shortly after getting the news. The result is a tight group of 11 songs wrapped up in a year, despite a diagnosis that only gave Zevon three months to live. Along the way, plenty of famous names--both friends and fans--pitched in, including Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Dwight Yoakam and Don Henley. Allusions to his situation are naturally sprinkled throughout, whether it's partying in the face of doom ("The Rest of the Night"), using a self-penned blues song to look back with no regrets ("Rub Me Raw"), or pledging his eternal love ("El Amor De Mi Vida"). Even Zevon's cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," avoids the pitfall of sentimentality as he can be heard bellowing "open up, open up" in the background of the song's chorus sung by Tommy Shaw, John Waite, and Billy Bob Thornton. "Keep Me in Your Heart" finds Zevon subtly asking just that, in a dignified manner guaranteed to mist up the eyes of even the most jaded person. Ain't Living Long Like This CD music Following in the footsteps of alt-country icons Shelby Lynne, Allison Moorer, and Maria McKee, Tift Merritt gilds her sophomore effort, TAMBOURINE, with country-inflected soul, a stylistic crossroads where Nashville and Muscle Shoals meet. Teaming up with Black Crowes/Jayhawks producer George Drakoulias, Merritt doles out healthy servings of roots-rock that include the chugging "Your Love Made a U-Turn" (with its bubbling bass and chirping harmonies), the jangly "Stray Paper," and the organ-smothered "Wait It Out." Blessed with a voice reminiscent of a breathier Dusty Springfield, the native Texan has earned plenty of praise from her peers, resulting in a few noteworthy guests popping up on this outing. Pedal-steel virtuoso Robert Randolph checks in on the rollicking "I Am Your Tambourine," while McKee and Jayhawk Gary Louris harmonize on the twangy "Late Night Pilgrim" and the bittersweet "Write My Ticket." But make no mistake, Merritt's chops allow her to forge her own way. When she tucks her croon amid the Memphis Horns-flavored arrangements of "Good Hearted Man," there's no difficulty discerning the gal's soul pedigree. With TAMBOURINE, Tift Merritt takes another step towards gaining a foothold in the world of insurgent country. Ain't Living Long Like This songs STUMBLE INTO GRACE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Over three decades into a highly successful career as an interpreter of other writers' material, Emmylou Harris beats the odds by releasing her second consecutive album of original compositions. She's had plenty of time to learn from the best, and the lessons gained from digging into the work of writers like Gram Parsons, Leonard Cohen, and Townes Van Zandt can be felt here, even if she can't be expected to equal their mastery. She works again with members of the Spyboy band that helped reinvent Harris's sound on WRECKING BALL, but as on RED DIRT GIRL, the churning, rhythmic feel of the former is underplayed in favor of a gentler, more folkish approach. Years ago, few could have guessed that one of Harris's most valuable songwriting partners would be a former member of NYC funk-rockers Luscious Jackson, but Jill Cunniff is a worthy weapon in STUMBLE INTO GRACE's arsenal, co-writing the trenchant "Time in Babylon." Other esteemed writing partners include Daniel Lanois, ex-husband Paul Kennerly, and Kate & Anna McGarrigle, but this ultimately feels like a very personal statement straight from the heart of this seasoned artist. Stumble Into Grace, like its predecessor, is a self-composed opus - only the third of her career. It is also produced by Malcolm Burn, and features guitarist Buddy Miller and drummer Brady Blade, core members of her band Spyboy, featured on Red Dirt Girl. Slipcase. Nonesuch. 2003. Ain't Living Long Like This album for sale RULES OF TRAVEL was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Rosanne Cash started out at the vanguard of progressive country in the late '70s, but although you can't have deeper roots in country music than Johnny Cash's eldest child, she always had a broader vision in mind. Her definitive farewell to country came with 1993's THE WHEEL and she hasn't looked back since. Only one more album popped out in the 10 years between that career milestone and RULES OF TRAVEL, but it sounds like it was time well spent. With country ever further behind her, Cash goes down a deep, dark, introspective singer/songwriter path via dusky songs simmering with hurt, regret, and hard lessons learned. Cash's artful-but-not-pretentious lyrics are expertly framed by husband/producer/multi-instrumentalist John Leventhal, who plays the lion's share of the instruments and leads his wife toward a sonic state not dissimilar to that of his cohort Shawn Colvin (a crisp folk/rock/pop amalgam). Guest appearances by the likes of Steve Earle and Big Daddy Cash himself make for some variety, but it's Ms. Cash's trenchant, concise songwriting that's the star of this show. Recorded at 12th Street Studio, Sear Sound, and New York Noise, New York, New York; Cash Cabin Studio, Hendersonville, Tennessee; Nashville, Tennessee. Personnel: Rosanne Cash (vocals, guitar); Johnny Cash, Steve Earle (vocals); John Leventhal (guitar, Wurlitzer organ, keyboards, percussion); Tony Kadleck (flugelhorn); Larry Farrell (trombone); Doug Petty, Danny Louis (organ); Zev Katz (upright bass); Dennis McDermott, Shawn Pelton (drums, percussion); Catherine Russell (background vocals). Ain't Living Long Like This CD music The fact that Crowell covers a Bob Dylan song here (a lovely take on "Shelter from the Storm," rendered as a duet with Emmylou Harris) is not coincidental. The influence of Dylan hangs heavy in Crowell's songwriting, from his critiques of consumer culture ("The Obscenity Prayer") to his moments of personal revelation ("Beautiful Despair"). Help from luminaries like Harris, John Prine, and Buddy and Julie Miller help round out the sound of the THE OUTSIDER, another fine addition to Crowell's increasingly impressive catalogue. Singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell's literate, introspective lyrics and his musical mix of country, rock, and folk continues to develop and deepen on this 2005 release. Whereas 2003's FATE'S RIGHT HAND leaned toward rootsy-but-modern country, THE OUTSIDER turns up the guitars, as the amped-up opener, "Say You Love Me," indicates, and the slinky, thumping title track confirms. But even while Crowell adds muscle to his sound, his pen is still mightier, and THE OUTSIDER is filled with clever turns of phrase, satiric barbs, and vivid imagery. Personnel: Emmylou Harris (vocals); Will Kimbrough (electric guitar); Steve Fishell (steel guitar); Jonathan Yudkin (fiddle); John Mock (tin whistle, concertina); John Hobbs (organ); Tony Harrell (keyboards); Michael Rhodes (bass guitar); Eddie Bayers, Shannon Forrest (drums).
