Richard Strauss: Die Frau Ohne Schatten DVD

 Richard Strauss and the opera to beat all operas
Strauss was aiming for something very special with Die Frau Ohne Schatten. It has often been called his attempt at "The Magic Flute." The story, while a little twisted and sometimes hard to follow, acts as a framework upon which to hang some of the most sublime music that Stauss was ever to pen. In that sense, he succeeded, beyond even his own expectations. Die Frau Ohne Schatten is truly an opera for the most seasoned of opera lovers and has many treasures for those who embrace it. The performance by Solti is astounding. One of the truly great interpretations. The staging is well worth seeing and holds ones visual attentions. Not to be missed.

 Strauss bliss
If only for the sumptuous DTS 5.1 audio - BUY IT! But it all comes together quite brilliantly: singing, staging, conducting - BUY IT!!! (note/quibble: the picture is letterboxed, not anamorphic for 16x9 monitors as the back cover "aspect ratio" spec might suggest)
