Audioslave Audioslave CD (2002) Top Seller
Under a Pale Grey Sky buy CD music AUDIOSLAVE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
"Like A Stone" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
A modern day super-group composed of ex-members of heavy rock titans Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave was subject to some pretty high fan expectations. Luckily, the group delivers just what the doctor ordered: a seamless mix of the styles that made the individual members famous. Basically a stoner rock record par excellence, AUDIOSLAVE strips the genre down to its core, serving up one pile-driving riff after another with minimal, but perfectly placed, production flash. In any given song, the band repeats said riffs with even more bone-crushing attitude each time.
Just when the listener thinks his/her head will go numb from too much stud-rock low E-string twanging and Montrose-era Sammy Hagar-esque wailing, however, Audioslave wisely throws in a ballad. Sure, it's a proven rock formula, but these guys are professionals fully in control of the situation; AUDIOSLAVE bristles with a no-frills, offhand intensity that throws down and reminds those silly nu-metal poseurs what heavy rock is all about.

Beneath the Remains CD (1989) Top Seller
Under a Pale Grey Sky CD music Digitally remastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
With 1989's BENEATH THE REMAINS, Sepultura began a remarkable four-album streak of bold, innovative thrash metal that is nearly unparalleled in the genre. Here the Brazilian quartet transformed from a promising death metal band into a musical force of nature, with Max Cavalera's gruff, primal vocals and potent rhythm-guitar riffs leading the way for the blistering guitar lines of Andreas Kisser and the crushing rhythms of bassist Paulo Jr. and drummer Igor Cavalera (Max's brother).
Every selection on REMAINS seethes with intensity, particularly the opening title track, which moves from a haunting acoustic-guitar passage to a fierce metallic barrage, and the record's lead single, "Inner Self," which is marked by Igor's pummeling double-bass work and Kisser's searing, technically accomplished solos. Having grown up idolizing bands like Slayer and Metallica, the young members of Sepultura were on the verge of rivaling their heroes with REMAINS. Simply put, this is one of the best--and most consistent--thrash albums ever recorded.
Digitally remastered reissue of the hit Brazilian thrashmetal group's 1989 album on a gold CD & with three bonustracks added, 'A Hora E A Vez Do Cabelo Nascer', 'InnerSelf' (Drum Tracks) & 'Mass Hypnosis' (Drum Tracks). 12tracks total. 1997 Roadrunner Records release.

Under a Pale Grey Sky songs All tracks have been digitally remastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
Brazilian death metal upstart Sepultura took an incredible leap forward with their second full-length album, 1987's Schizophrenia. Though recorded only a year after the band's primitive debut, Schizophrenia displayed a remarkable sonic evolution in both technical and creative terms. Constant touring, rehearsal, and the addition of new lead guitarist Andreas Kisser obviously helped the band achieve the musical proficiency necessary to pull off its complex songs. This is apparent as soon as the Psycho-inspired intro theme gives way to the precise, lightning-quick staccato riffing of "From the Past Comes the Storm." But Sepultura immediately raises the stakes with the excellent riffs and precise soloing on "To the Wall" and "Escape From the Void." The seven-minute instrumental "Inquisition Symphony" is simply breathtaking in its diversity, perfectly showcasing the band's incredible combination of melody and aggression. The re-recorded version of the group's early hit "Troops of Doom" makes this album even more collectible, and helps set the stage for the band's subsequent breakthrough release, Beneath the Remains. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation CD (1986)
Under a Pale Grey Sky CD music MORBID VISIONS/BESTIAL DEVASTATION was originally released as 2 separate EPs.
Tracks 1-8 are from MORBID VISIONS and 9-13 are from BESTIAL DEVASTATION.
BESTIAL DEVASTATION recorded at J.G. Estudios, Belo Horizonte, Brazil in August 1985. MORBID VISIONS recorded at Estudio Vice Versa, Belo Horizonte, Brazil in August 1986. Includes liner notes by Don Kaye.
Although it's tempting to succumb to retroactive reevaluation, most critics agree that Sepultura's earliest efforts consisted of rather undercooked, unspectacular black metal, hardly foreshadowing their world-conquering output in the death metal field, just a few years ahead. Both 1985's Bestial Devastation EP and the band's first LP, 1986's Morbid Visions, were recorded with minimal time or money, and revealed a band of teenagers more preoccupied with shocking their parents than creating great music, and clearly still learning their craft. In fact, original lead guitarist Jairo T. was the only semi-decent musician of the bunch, but vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera, drummer Igor Cavalera, and bassist Paulo Jr. nevertheless contributed a mighty spirited racket on blackened thrashers like "Antichrist" and "Warriors of Death." Venom would have been proud. And yet Sepultura still showed early flashes of death metal inspiration on "Crucifixion" and "Show Me the Wrath," even though "Troops of Doom" (later re-recorded) is the only obvious standout on hand. Thankfully, Roadrunner has conveniently reissued Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation on one CD, lowering the price of admission for uncertain metalheads wishing to hear what all the fuss was about. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Roorback/Revolusongs CDs (2003)
Under a Pale Grey Sky buy CD music Losing a lead singer can be incredibly disruptive for a band. Some bands will bounce back -- AC/DC, for example, sounded better than ever when it hired Brian Johnson after Bon Scott's untimely death -- while others will suffer a creative decline. Sepultura experienced a major loss when former lead singer Max Cavalera left to form Soulfly in 1996, but thankfully, Derrick Green proved to be a highly capable replacement. If 1998's mildly uneven Against -- Sepultura's first album with Green -- found the band struggling with the transition, Green was filling Cavalera's shoes much more confidently on 2001's Nation. And if there are still any lingering doubts about the Green/Sepultura match, 2003's excellent Roorback should put them to rest for good. Green is passionate and focused throughout the album -- he has no problem going that extra mile -- and the writing is consistently strong. Unrest and political corruption are recurring themes on Roorback; American singer Green and his Brazilian colleagues spare no anger on incendiary tracks like "Mind War," "Apes of God," and the crushing opener, "Come Back Alive" (which is about surviving the horrors of wartime combat). The songs that Sepultura wrote for Roorback paint a consistently bleak and troubling picture of the world -- one that is only reinforced by an unlikely remake of U2's "Bullet the Blue Sky" appended to the album. Sepultura successfully give U2's gem a ferocious alternative metal makeover, and Bono's dark lyrics are right at home on this politically charged CD. When Roorback came out during the summer of 2003, Sepultura had been together for 19 years -- and this compelling disc finds them very much on top of their game after almost two decades in the metal field. ~ Alex Henderson
