Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments; DTS Sound FROM HELL is a gory detective film cloaked in Victorian-era mystique. The movie shows how the serial killer Jack the Ripper stalked the dark streets of 1888 London, slaying prostitutes and crudely dissecting their bodies. Based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, this moody chiller is directed by twin brothers Albert and Allen Hughes (MENACE II SOCIETY, AMERICAN PIMP). Johnny Depp stars as Inspector Frederick Abberline, who smokes heavy doses of opium and drowns himself in absinthe to evoke hallucinatory visions that are his clues to catching the Ripper. Heather Graham costars as the prettiest of the floozies, who wins the muted affections of the Inspector.
With plenty of atmosphere and spooky effects, FROM HELL borrows scenery, filming tricks, and sequence construction from a host of popular movies, resulting in a visually interesting--if inconsistent--style. Haunting nighttime shots of the London skyline (actually Prague) bleed into shadowy Tim Burton-like prowls through the damp cobblestone streets; aerial camerawork contrasts with crowded ground-level focuses; and the camera peeks around corners and into foggy windows with stealthy curiosity. What may stand out most in viewers minds after the carnage is through, is the exaggerated use of surround sound, which brings a dreadful sense of reality to the film's gore, making FROM HELL all the juicier. From Hell Reviews: "...The Hughes Brothers' goal here is to make an epic of savagery, and they are brilliant at ambience and details....A conspiracy-theory thriller with brains and a heart..."
-- Elvis Mitchell, New York Times "...Sensational and accomplished....A horror film of genuine artistry and excitement. The Hughes brothers work with commanding restraint..."
-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "...Impressively realized, confirming the Brothers as formidable visual stylists....The shadow-drenched Prague studio sets help sustain a sense of claustrophobia well suited to a tale of endemic corruption..."
-- Andy Richards, Sight and Sound "...It's a true auteur movie, perfectly in sync with the brothers' previous output and delivered with a dry, subliminal message..."
-- Steve Grayson, Total Film "...A rich, atmospheric film....The movie feels dark, clammy and exhilarating -- it's like belonging to a secret club where you can have a lot of fun but might get into trouble..."

From Hell Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Completely forth telling From Hell is a must see. With a story line that is so compeling to it's viewer's. And the cast is absolutely wonderful. Staring Johnny depp and Heather Gram with an outstanding performance. Submitted by sunskyjen (wenona ,IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A visual treat It has Johnny Depp, Heather Graham, Ian Holm, and Jason Flemyng in it and little else to recommend. Submitted by tintin84105 (Woods Cross, UT USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
From Hell rises Awesome movie. Partly based on truth and some Hollywood drama. If you can find the 2-disc version, it is a classic! Submitted by sammy5150 (Winnipeg, MB., canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Get this before the Illuminati takes them all!!! This DVD is a must have if you are at all interested in the following: Alan Moore's graphic novel "FROM HELL"; conspiracy theories; or the secret society of the Freemasons as grand puppet masters. The movie itself is a bit slow at times but is extremely faithful to the graphic novel it was based on. However what really sells this DVD is the 2nd disc. The amount of bonus material to movie ratio is amazing. And dare I say the "Ripper" theories and extensive historical research/info is better than the movie itself. I actually enjoyed the movie more after I had watched the bonus material and viewed it a second time. These 2 disc sets are hard to come buy so get one if you can. Nobody locally had it or could order it, VIDEO Universe was the only place I could find it and order it without selling my first born, and know I had the correct version coming to me. From Hell film
$6.49 Live Recording
Alice In Chains: Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell (vocals, guitar); Michael Starr (bass); Sean Kinney (drums). Additional personnel: Tom Araya (background vocals). Recorded in 1992. Dirt is Alice in Chains' major artistic statement and the closest they ever came to recording a flat-out masterpiece. It's a primal, sickening howl from the depths of Layne Staley's heroin addiction, and one of the most harrowing concept albums ever recorded. Not every song on Dirt is explicitly about heroin, but Jerry Cantrell's solo-written contributions (nearly half the album) effectively maintain the thematic coherence -- nearly every song is imbued with the morbidity, self-disgust, and/or resignation of a self-aware yet powerless addict. Cantrell's technically limited but inventive guitar work is by turns explosive, textured, and queasily disorienting, keeping the listener off balance with atonal riffs and off-kilter time signatures. Staley's stark confessional lyrics are similarly effective, and consistently miserable. Sometimes he's just numb and apathetic, totally desensitized to the outside world; sometimes ...

From Hell review
$8.55 In Tim Burton's stylish, creepy retelling of the classic Washington Irving story, SLEEPY HOLLOW, Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is a squeamish, bookish 18th century New York City investigator sent to a small town in lower Westchester county to look into three mysterious decapitations. When the always rational Crane arrives at the little Dutch village, he finds that most of the townsfolk believe the culprit to be the Headless Horseman, ...

The Impossibility of Reason is the debut Roadrunner full-length for Chimaira, a Cleveland sextet that likes to think of itself as advance scouts of the NWOAHM, or New Wave of American Heavy Metal, a metal movement to rival the British heavy metal onslaught that conquered the world in the 1980s. And while almost two decades of metal music have made a fully original sound almost impossible, Chimaira comes out of the gate with enough key of C attitude to turn heads and get them banging. Metalcore is the name ...
| | Korn Greatest Hits Vol. 1 CD (2004)
From Hell movie DVD
$9.75 This release includes a bonus DVD. Korn: Jonathan Davis (vocals, bagpipe); Brian Welch, James Shaffer (guitar); Fieldy (bass guitar); David Silveria (drums). A decade after changing the metal landscape drastically with their self-titled debut juggernaut, Korn got the best-of treatment just as their standing began to seem increasingly shaky, commercially at least. Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 sadly isn't the disc it ideally could be, but it nonetheless summarizes how steady Korn were over the years, developing their sound oh so slightly from one album to the next and, in the process, coming up with several unquestionably killer songs every go-round. The band's six full-lengths resulted in enough of those killer songs to fill this best-of to the brim; in fact, there are quite a few more that could have been compiled here if there were more space on this single-disc release (a double disc would have been definitive). As it stands, however, practically every song here is a highlight in and of itself, with the sole exceptions of the below-par "Alone I Break" and a pair of album-opening covers: Cameo's "Word Up!" and Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall, Pts. 1-3." These newly recorded covers are here undoubtedly to bait the legions of Korn fans who already own all the band's albums but are loyal enough to purchase this best-of as a way to hear these songs. And yes, they're quite curious, ...
| | Mudvayne Lost And Found CD (2005)
From Hell video
$8.99 Mudvayne: Chad Gray (vocals); Greg Tribbett (guitar); Ryan Martinie (bass guitar); Matt McDonough (drums). It's been three years for Mudvayne, three years when metal started to reject its "rap" and "nu" prefixes. At first, Lost and Found reflects that realignment. Vocalist Chad Gray and his mates have nixed the nicknames and makeup for their third Epic full-length, and they try to focus on songs instead of heavy music shtick. However, they equate getting real with the melodramatic plead that interrupts the razor-sharp main part of "Choices," and Gray can't overcome lines like "IMN"'s "No one/No one could ever understand/This life." The song is about suicide, which is very serious. But yelling "F*ck this sh*t!" over thudding rhythms just isn't very powerful anymore. They nail it on opener "Determined" -- one of Mudvayne's all-time strongest tracks, it's a fist-swinging blast of modernized thrash. But Lost and Found soon falls into the familiar, busting no-one-understands-me lyrics and matching moments of refreshing rawness to stretches of stereotypical "corporate metal," a non-genre that's risen up to accept loud rock refugees and the harder side of post-grunge. The energy in "Determined" and "Just" is sapped by the meandering "TV Radio" and "Fall into Sleep," and ultimately ...
