You can't fault Jordan Rudess' intentions with his 2002 release, 4NYC. After the tragic events of 9/11, Rudess and his wife put together a benefit concert on September 24, 2001, at the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center in Nyack, NY, in an effort to raise money for the American Red Cross. The album was issued a little over a year later, and is comprised solely of solo instrumental performances by Rudess, seven of 13 tracks from the live concert and the remainder recorded in the studio. The tunes run the gamut from piano (the album-opening "My Thoughts") to synthesizer (which provides the unmistakable harp sounds on "Mourning After"). Expectedly, the material is of the solemn variety, but there are plenty of tunes to show off Rudess' exceptional keyboard chops -- especially "A Step Beyond." To experience Jordan Rudess far outside of Dream Theater's oft-hectic and demanding prog metal, 4NYC is recommended. ~ Greg Prato 4nyc Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Incredible The world's greatest keyboardist Jordan Rudess, had in this album preformed some of his best improvisations. After spetember, 11 2001, Jordan had felt much displacement upon himslef. soon, he thought of the idea to perform a concert to raise money for the fatal tragidy that had occured that year. so, on this album Jordan expresses his thoughts and feelings towards the tragedy without any preperation on his Kurzweil 2600 keyboard, nine foot stienway grand, and Korg Karma. However, some of the cd is not live nor imrovised, but also extremely amazing, and thoughtful.

Rudess is an Exception player To hear Jordan Rudess' piano playing puts me in mind of some of the classic painists before him. His compositions (or improvisations) are great on the piano. However, on this set, several pieces are played on a harp like instrument (it could very well be a keyboard harp tone), but they were not impressive. Sounded more like background music. I think Jordan could put out some phenomenal piano pieces and I will always look forward to his future projects. Submitted by MB (Dallas, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

"Mary had a little lamb"?? The rendition of abovementioned childrens classic is almost worth the price of the CD alone. To be able to improvise and play like Jordan does on this partly live, partly in the studio recorded CD is a talent few people possess. 4nyc album
$13.85 On Feeding the Wheel, Jordan Rudess has modernized the keyboard sounds pioneers like E. Power Biggs, Rick Wakeman, Gary Wright, Alan Hovhaness, and Keith Emerson broke ground with. The latter-day third ivory player in Dream Theater takes Gary Wright's Dream Weaver a step or two into the twilight zone. "Headspace" is a nice moody piece, kind of like Edgar Froese outside of Kraftwerk with more activity in the mix. "Quantum Soup" features Steve Morse of the Dregs on guitar solo with Terry Bozzio of Missing Persons playing percussion, the first of eight numbers the ex-Zappa drummer provides the bottom for. Track two has its own evolution, from jazz/progressive rock to a bassy funk eight minutes into the tune, with the 11 minutes ...

$9.29 Although not rising to the level of either of their previous production albums or their live record, Daft Punk's version of a remix album is far better than most of its ilk. But first off, agreeing to remix Daft Punk counts as an act of high hubris for most producers; the duo is responsible for some of the most innovative productions ("Musique," "Revolution 909," "Aerodynamic") and remixes ("Mothership Reconnection," "Disco Cubism," "Chord Memory") of recent years. But fresh blood is always intriguing, and the acts hired out to post-produce for 2001's Discovery LP were widely varied and highly talented. Basement Jaxx's version of "Phoenix" (the only track originally taken from Daft Punk's debut album) is a mostly successful translation of DP-style robot disco into Basement Jaxx's vision of sensual house. And although few of the other big names tapped turn in tracks that meet or exceed expectations, the gaps are filled in nicely by lesser-known French upstarts like Jess & Crabbe and Cosmo Vitelli as well as mainstream house mastermind Boris Dlugosch, whose "Digital Love" wisely changes very little of the original. ~ John Bush
