TWISTED ANGEL shows just how far the newly adult vocalist has come from her teenage-prodigy beginnings. For one thing, she seems determined to leave her country roots far behind. Though she started down the pop route as early as 1997's YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE, TWISTED ANGEL is completely devoid of any country inflection whatsoever, focusing instead (as have a couple of Rimes's previous efforts, to varying degrees) on modern, often even danceable, pop. Rimes may be closer to Britney Spears than to Kitty Wells these days, but she seems to be expressing more of her inner self. It's surely no coincidence that three of the four songs on which she gets co-writing credit utilize the imagery of the angel with dirty wings, the child star with tears behind the smile. Lyrically, Rimes is clearly exploring the conflicts and contradictions that her childhood fame brought her, which may or may not take her higher up the pop charts, but can only be a positive artistic step for a still-young singer.
LeAnn steps into a new Pop dimension with songs produced by such luminaries as Desmond Child (Life Goes On), Peter Amato (of Baha Men fame) and Gregg Pagani (Canada's #LW). Includes the hit single 'Life Goes On'. Curb Records. 2002.

Twisted Angel Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Not a country music lover I love Leann Rimes DESPITE the fact that she is considered "country". I have to admit that I went through the songs the first time and didn't absolutely love them, but the 2nd time was a different story. Once I became familiar with the melodies, her superb voice carried me away. I will listen to anything she sings, even the pepsi commercial. LeAnn is Gorgeous I give LeAnn props for not being afraid of her sexuality...she doesn't look uncomfortable in the booklet pictures..just cuz she's not smiling doesnt mean anything..anyways...I love the songs "Tic Toc" and "Review My Kisses" and "Twisted Angel" but my favorite song is "The Safest Place" Submitted by Danielle (Colorado Springs, CO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Great music for less than $6 Why this CD is less than six dollars and her new album is over twelve dollars is beyond me. This album was released with almost no publicity at all because LeAnn was involved with a legal battle between her and her father at the time. The music on here was sadly lost in the shuffle, though "Life Goes On" got some airplay. This is obviously NOT a country album except for maybe one song on here, but don't let the sexualized cover art fool you. This is LeAnn's best CD hands down. She sings her as* off on every song, and every song is different and enjoyable. She is definitely a gifted artist, and is a lot more versatile than just country music. I was disappointed with her choice to return exclusively to her country roots on her past two CDs, but I can always play this CD as a reminder of the experimental stages of her career, and how amazing she sounded. Life Goes On I do not have this album, but I love the song Life Goes On.I used to think it was about death, but the lyrics are more about forgetting the past and moving on in life. Submitted by NK (England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
